Pitchsiding? I presume it's a thing? Is it?

T20, IPL, Test matches or the Ashes, discuss it here.

That's impressive considering the big screen at the ground is about 0.8sec behind

Pitchsiding is rife in Cricket. With the increase in liquidity in recent years the rewards are huge, pre pandemic there would be someone at most matches even the non-televised T20 Blast games. It's been interesting to watch the markets this year without crowds/pitchsiders but 1 person was still ahead of the rest most of the time for the televised England and T20 Blast games. When one of the England games got called off due to rain someone hoovered the CMM market a couple of seconds before TMS read out the note so it has to have been someone in the press or broadcasting side of things.

The Big Bash pictures are split between Channel 7 and Fox.

Raw fast feeds are available on 160E satelite.

U need this sort of dish and setup to stream effectively.

AUS Dishes porn.jpg

I had these 2 dishes installed about 2 weeks ago. They are streaming the Big Bash pics fora few Indian bookies and other clients.

The tennis might be on next month.

Speed / quality all depends on kit - this well enables bet cancellation.
Have the first two India Tests had raw satellite feeds? You can see someone quickly hitting the runs line market every ball, interested to know if they are at the ground or if they could potentially be using the raw feed

Only 1 day of the tests were not on satellite.

There are many other ways to get live feeds - just more labour intensive.

The Betfair runs lines have become v illiquid for whatever reason - I have my theories. Off-site, the mkts are incredibly deep.

Pitchsiding ... it's just not cricket! :D

OK, but reading that literally it means it takes place in sports other than cricket so I'm posting here under the Pitchsiding head, not the cricket head.

One area of 'pitchsiding' that fascinates me as to how it is done is the fallen national hunt horse. You have say 10 horses tightly bunched together, there is a faller in the middle of the pack and by the time you see it on the video the price has already leapt out to 1000 and someone has swept-up a big handful of unlucky back stakes! How? Two people, one with binoculars telling the other with finger poised over the Lay buttons? I admire those who can identify the faller immediately so as to take action especially with some very large fields but there are no spectators nowadays. Do they really do it from a fast fed TV screen Also only one can do it ... there is no profit in coming second in the sweep-up. That seems a lot of dedication in the hope of no competition.

If one put more effort and smarts into it than the next guy then there would be no competition. I would think its a precarious position to be in. Hero to zero as soon as you got your first stomach ulcer...Safer to be in the public service :)

If so much value is taken up by those with the fastest info, how can we be good enough to counter that lost value PLUS make extra on top of it?

That's a v fair question.

It mainly relates to in-play markets, which may be most here are not trading.

Those that are, have probably found ways to try and reduce the disadvantage thru different strategies - but personally, I would always
prefer having the fastest info flow.

Thanks, curious as to how people get live feeds aside from satellite/pitchside? For something like the European Cricket League I wasn't aware of any satellite feeds, I assume that was all done via internet so unless you are on the inside with broadcaster rights then accessing it wouldn't be possible. Yet there were seemingly a number of people all working off the same 'raw' feed ahead of any TV broadcast or app stream.

By off-site you mean the Indian markets? Illiquid because of the clamp down on the Indian access?

If there are no sat feeds people can facetime, bribe local people, or hack into feeds. these are all probably illegal - but pretty tough to police.

Once one person has it - it soon gets distributed.

I won't comment on runs line markets.

Just on the way home from Metricon from the Sixers/Strikers game.

Tickets were restricted to square of the wicket on only one side of the ground, made it very easy to pick the boundaries earlier compared to the Gabba match (where I was behind the bowlers arm) but impossible to pick to line, potential nicks/wides etc.

Did better than the Heat game which was surprising since it wasn't particularly competitive but being able to pick up the square of the wicket boundaries earlier made a huge difference. Changed my strategy a little but think that will be it for me for the season, the few dollars you can make aren't worth the risk of getting blacklisted from the grounds (for me at least). I'll probably experiment with one of the fast feeds and see if it's feasible to keep up with the market.

But in terms of the broadcasting it's either done by satellite or fiber in my understanding. Without fans and if nothing is sent over sat then they would have to access the fiber feed which I didn't think was possible like people can with the sat feeds, so it would have to come from someone who has access on the inside distributing it out.

Has there been history of blacklisting at the BBL at all? As outlined in Game Set Cash the tennis authorities really clamped down on it when the rights deal started and made courtsiding pretty hard but I imagine it's much harder to police in cricket (if they even bother)

Yeah there have been isolated reported incidents and a few arrests for trespass when banned people have attended future games. No idea how many bans have gone unreported. It seems most have been caught with laptops and/or equipment to send info to third parties. Doing it on your phone would have to be low risk you'd think, half the crowd is on their phone at any one time anyway. The way I'm doing it is very unsophisticated mind you, one click with a corresponding offset. I literally never have to look at my phone if I don't want (obviously I want to see if the offset bet has been matched though).
