Stage 16 was delayed because of bad weather. The scheduled early climbs and descent from 2,500 metres were removed from the route. Several hours late, the peloton rolled out from a petrol station down the valley. The market initially thought this was a stage for a breakaway, but as the parcours changed, Tadej Pogacar's price came in from threes to twos. Have a look at the screengrab. You can also see some silly sausage laying Pogacar at 17.5 when the day's break had a two-minute lead.

Yeah, I think we’ll know more after tomorrow’s stage and the Galibier, but lots of folk have already decided. Vingegaard moved in to 2.0s from 3.0s after chasing Pogacar down over the top of San Luca.
Back out to 2.5 now though. Its like a rerun of past few tours Pogo burning matches early cos he cant help himself really. Just a great racer. Not a summit finish tomorrow so the descent could throw a bit of water on attacking intentions. Can't wait.

Can anyone tell me, please, what typical Vuelta liquidity is like compared to the other two Grand Tours?
I've been looking forward to this race for weeks. The Tour was great for trading (by cycling market standards). The men's Olympic TT and road race were also worthwhile. This is grim in comparison. Stage 3 today, 50km to go and only 3K matched.

The men's world championship road race is on Sunday. Quite an interesting market.
Predictably, Tadej Pogacar is favourite. While there's decent volume at this stage (for cycling) there's been a remarkable reluctance to lay Pogacar any more than a couple of ticks above the best bookie's price.
1.72 is the best you'll get from a bookmaker just now. That's been the highest price on offer at various times during the week. Very little of the total amount traded has been matched above 1.72: about £700 at 1.73 and even less at 1.74. Unusual for the exchange market to be so stingy.
Not many tradeable races left this season. Hopefully tomorrow will be a good one.

Not half. Bet365 has just stopped offering prices on the result with 44km to go!

Bet365 offering 1/12 on Pogacar again. They're hoping he's going to bonk.

Very exciting. 80K matched, too!
Must admit, I thought Pogacar had attacked too early. When he bridged to the break, I expected a complete lack of cooperation and a slow return to the peloton. Putting Tratnik on the front then attacking the break on the next climb was exactly the right thing to do. Fair play to Pogacar for committing to the move he initiated.

The was the moment of peak suspense in the final 50km of Il Lombardia.
No more cycling markets till 2025, I suspect.
