The same thing happened to me. I posted about it in another thread.
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22258

I've taken it up with the Escalations Team, [email protected], but doesn't look like it's going anywhere at the moment. It's taken me a week just to get a standard reply from them which basically told me to read the t&c's and didn't give any detail about what the problem was.

I get the feeling that my account was flagged for closure by an automated process and nobody can be bothered to look into it even though I've had the account for over ten years.

For what it's worth I never used practice mode but always tested things with small stakes.

I'd imagine that customer support are already overwhelmed with US election queries so seems a ridiculous time to carry out this kind of purge.
Thanks Johnedale, I will try the Escalations Team email.

Don’t know if this is relevant or not but many install software on your machine which reports back certain information.

Example:

- Casino/poker playing rooms use it to make sure your not running betting bots. Obviously betfair wouldn’t be interest in that but they maybe picking up other stuff etc. Having said that if your playing betfair poker then they would be.

Not saying anyone is doing anything illegal but maybe betfair is looking for and finding certain activity on your machine that they don’t like.

When I was made redundant in August (due to pandemic) I was allowed to keep the laptop and completely wiped it back to factory settings so it was clean. That's when I decided to start trading and I only use it for BA and Betfair for trading and nothing else so I don't think it could be that.

I've taken it up with the Escalations Team, [email protected],
Can anyone with an issue that's unresolved on the chat facility use the escalation email address?

I had to go into maximum restraint mode when talking to somebody who just repeated the same answer to any question in case they closed my account for being abusive!

Suspect account creation date & volume bet in live are variables in the equation.

I think they are most scared about the new acc's as they have a much higher risk of having been opened for the purpose of collecting data whereas vs. an established customer. If a few legit new customers get caught in the net along with those with malice then that's deemed a win, especially if they're not providing much liquidity to the mkts.

Unsure if BF are just looking to discourage requests to their API to decrease server load, might also be a factor.

I hope the guys making these decisions don't ever open a pub or nightclub.

Never used them before but I think the Escalation Team will look at any unresolved dispute.

Hi, guys! Had the same issue - account closed "on business grounds", several days ago. Got it resolved.

Nov 14. Answer from support via BF ios app:
"Advise customer that account is closed on business grounds due to market data control reasons. Funds can be returned."
Nov. 16. Answer from BF Developers support (https://betfairdevelopersupport.zendesk ... quests/new):
"Apologies, we've been having issues with vendor data recently which has been resolved; your account was not showing your vendor betting activity but only your reading which is in excess of over 25 million requests. I've now re-opened your account as I can see your active betting history. However, where possible could you please try minimize your data requests as 25 million requests is a very large volume. Please ensure you close down any software/exchange websites when you are not actively betting."

Guess I've been overusing Practice Mode recently ;)
Hope this helps and good luck.

Pleased to hear that. 25 million data requests is undoubtedly a lot, but did they give any timeframe over which those requests took place?

They did not. However, I assume that major part of those happened during last 2 months: I took second laptop and have been launching automation on it almost daily. That's at least 600 football matches with 7-8 markets on each in guardian.

Not the smartest thing to do, as I can see now. Learning some basic programming and analyzing historical data would have yielded better results and cause less problems.

How would I go about calculating the amount of data requests I am making from Betfair? I have many complicated Guardian automations running (real mode) that collect data but I have always assumed this places strain only onto Guardian rather than Betfair but how can I tell? Not keen to fall foul of this myself...

Just to add an update here, we have since heard from Betfair RE these excessive data requests in their millions and Betfair have said this is due to customers keeping the Betfair site open while logged in but not betting over a sustained period of time.

Which was a bit surprising as I (like many others) have the BF site open all day as a backup against any problems with the API.

Its possible there is a 'refresh' option in there somewhere among the settings (but not looked yet), and if so maybe some of those who have hit these high data requests have increased this at some point.

But either way just something to be aware of

When they say logged into the the Betfair site.......are they including being logged into our accounts on the API?
