Expect more Betfair account/deposit restrictions September onwards.
Last year, you registered to hear more about developments on the Gambling Commission’s work setting requirements to identify customers at risk of harm and to take action.
The Gambling Commission has recently published the remote customer interaction consultation response, on the ways in which operators must track indicators of harm and take action to support customers. We have introduced new, stronger rules to ensure online gambling businesses do more to identify and protect consumers from harm which will come into effect in September 2022. This does not include the topic of affordability.
We have committed to a further consultation on this topic, to include proposals to tackle three key risks:
customers who are particularly financially vulnerable
significant unaffordable losses in a short period of time
significant unaffordable losses over a sustained period of time.
The Commission received approximately 13,000 responses to the consultation and call for evidence. All responses to the proposals were carefully considered to ensure proportionate, robust changes were made.

Thankfully affordability seems to have taken a back seat because that's the hard one to prove. Although "financially l vulnerable" is vague. Otherwise it doesn't seem too bad, mainly about protecting losers.Grinderman wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 9:41 amExpect more Betfair account/deposit restrictions September onwards.

Who makes the money from these big losers? ie.who might this affect from the winner perspective...?ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 1:24 pmThankfully affordability seems to have taken a back seat because that's the hard one to prove. Time spent gambling could be a problem for bots especially if you hardly ever log off and place bets at all hours.Licensees must use a range of indicators relevant to their customer and the nature of the gambling facilities provided in order to identify harm or potential harm associated with gambling. These must include:
customer spend
patterns of spend
time spent gambling
gambling behaviour indicators
customer-led contact
use of gambling management tools
account indicators

But how will Betfair decide who is 'Financially vulnerable' ? By getting us to prove our income otherwise they restrict how much we can deposit.

There's no mention of big losers, just people who can't afford to lose. And maybe that would affect the bottom line but I'd hope most people wouldn't want to make money from people who couldn't afford it. This ain't Wolf of Wall St and people do have a conscience these days I hope.
You can keep your conscience clean by not thinking about it.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 5:39 pmThere's no mention of big losers, just people who can't afford to lose. As so often the way the framework hasn't kept up to speed with the industry. Ie shoehorning an exchange operation into a system designed to legislate on bookmaking and casinos.foxwood wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 2:59 pmTime spent gambling could be a problem for bots especially if you hardly ever log off and place bets at all hours.Licensees must use a range of indicators relevant to their customer and the nature of the gambling facilities provided in order to identify harm or potential harm associated with gambling. You do hear media stories of people who lose huge amounts...ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 5:39 pmThere's no mention of big losers, just people who can't afford to lose. but that was my point, it's not very ethical to be taking from them, so we shouldn't complain really about these checks being firmed up, seems fair really to protect.

I'm sure your not naive Shaun. The whole industry is merciless, mercenary, simillar to what we are seeing unfolding in eastern Europe !!!!ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 5:39 pmThere's no mention of big losers, just people who can't afford to lose. We're all targeting those mug punters and chasers to line our own pockets. The simple fact is most of those will be the one's that can least afford it, best not think too hard about it if you want a good night's sleep.
