BF account restricted - urgent help needed

I bet live in-play on the races almost every day, trying (mostly in vain) to make a living out of it. (I'm located in Australia). Today I tried to place a bet live in-play only to find that the bet wouldn't go on, a message appearing that I'm unable to place bet. Same with the next race. I could place bets before the jump, but once in-play, no go.

I ring BF customer service to learn that my account's been restricted for live betting, apparently because of live bets placed on sport (as opposed to racing) which isn't permitted in this country without doing so via the phone. Now I tried to explain that there must be an error as I rarely bet live in-play on sport, haven't done so for two months, and when I do so, I always use the phone as BF won't allow you to place bets via the website anyway.

The guy says he'll follow it up, but all I get back is the following email:

We apologise for the poor experience you have endured.
Unfortunately, the in-play restriction you have experienced does have a duality across both Racing and Sports and is currently in place as Betfair identified in-play bets on sports on your account. This restriction will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
If you require any bet to be placed in-play, please call through to our customer service department on 132238 in order to do so.
Thank you for your support and for being an advocate of Betfair.

I've written back saying that clearly there's been some mistake (for the reasons outlined above), and could they please escalate this to the appropriate dept asap. I'm worried this will drag on for days/weeks, or might not even get resolved at all.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That's correct from an exchange perspective. But you can phone in to bet on other sports. It was an anti-corruption thing.

But now I can't even bet live on racing - without ringing up, which is obviously not feasible. And I don't even know why. Either it's something to do with a breach of sports live betting rules (as the email suggests), which one glance at my betting history would show can't possibly be the case, or it's something to do with my horse race betting. I have no idea, and I'm starting to fear I will be permanently restricted and never actually get the reason why.

I've been working at this for years now, even investing in Bet Angel to assist, and whilst I certainly don't make a killing, I consistently make modest profits, a regular part-time income if you like. And it's the only "job" I've had I actually enjoy and look forward to.

But nearly all that revolves around live in-play horse racing. Now, just like that, that might all be over.

It's difficult to know what to recommended without additional detail.

Betfair can't stop you from betting in-running on horse racing you would think. But Betfair wont speak to anybody else about your account, so you would really need to speak to them to get more detail and push a decision in your favour.

That's interesting. I didn't even know you could phone up BF for IP betting on sports in Australia. I just thought it was banned. I assumed it was to kerb gambling problems, I didn't realise it was pure anti-corruption

It's okay. Just got a call from BF. Mistake their end, I was caught up in some issue another team was investigating. All good to go, thank Christ. Scary stuff!

Thanks for replying anyway.

Cheers

I think anti-corruption is a pure smokescreen.

Asu government gets $Aus 6-7 Billion a year in gambling tax revenue. They want to protect that/casinos they have big shares in.

If punters lose it to Betfair, they might lose less elsewhere -- which I agree, is debateable.
