Hopefully we'll get the API upgrade sooner rather than later - it would make sense to get everything in place before launching "The Ladbrokes Exchange" (if that's what it's to be) - the technology upgraded and stable, 3rd party trading platforms re-vamped and ready (complete with eager traders) etc.

Sounds like a good thing to me.

I'm hoping that a Ladbrokes branded exchange with a big marketing push behind it will result in a massive boost to overall exchange liquidity. I suspect that Betfair reached "Peak Punter" some time ago and the mix of trader to punter money has been steadily moving to a tipping point on some markets, and as a result we're seeing some of the effects described recently - very poor fill rate, erratic price movement, prices pushed into value territory etc. Betfair have apparently given up on attracting new money to the exchange, instead trying to squeeze the pips out of what they have (premium charge, variable basic commission and so on). To me, the withdrawal from non-core countries, the sports book, the Bingo, the Blackjack, the Scratchcards etc all signal throwing the towel in on growing the exchange.

Will a Ladbrokes branded exchange be able to attract the punters that Betfair couldn't ?

I think it's got a good chance - let's hope so anyway !!

Anyone who thinks Ladbrokes have arrived on a white horse to "save" the betting exchange model needs to calm down. It ain't gonna happen.

Probably right, but I'm determined to be optimistic about this.

When the primary exchange gets hidden away like some embarrassing relative and you have to petition just to get it noticed, any cause for hope is welcome as far as I'm concerned.

Just the vision of a donkey trotting in the distance would do right now! :)

Agree with mugsgame. In the long-run there is 100% no way Ladbrokes (EDIT) will cohabit with a flourishing exchange.

Doesn't matter if they own an (the?) exchange or somebody else does. Ladbrokes DNA is ripping off mug punters, always has and always will be.

If they manage to kill off betfair they'll promptly take a poison pill and kill betdaq... GUARANTEED

Ladbrokes online sportsbook prepares to launch its new feature, Ladbrokes Exchange, in early 2014.

Ladbrokes Exchange is a new feature that is scheduled to be added to Ladbrokes online sportsbook in early 2014. It will be a new product that will run alongside Ladbrokes' already existing fixed odds sportsbook, and will be accessible on Mac, PC, Tablet and Mobile. The goal is to create a more comprehensive and strategically differentiated sports betting for customers around the world.

The idea of Ladbrokes Exchange became possible when Ladbrokes acquired the Betdaq betting exchange, and decided to use it to launch a standalone business. The Exchange will hopefully bring new life to the United Kingdom's standard but stagnant online gambling site.

Promotion of Ladbrokes Exchange will mostly be done from Ladbrokes' new subsidiary in Israel, which was opened in May 2013. Ladbrokes Israel has approximately 60 employees and expects that number to grow to 100 by the end of 2013. Their goal will be the restructuring of resources with a focus on fully integrating Playtech into the system.

You can learn more about Ladbrokes Exchange on the Ladbrokes site - there is already a tab on the home page menu that says "Ladbrokes - Coming Soon." You can view the interesting promo video which ncludes the subtitles: "We've been working day and night...to bring you...Ladbrokes Exchange. Coming Soon."
