The 40% rate on online casino gaming is painful but manageable given higher margins.
The real damage is the jump in online betting duty from 15% to 25%. Because it’s charged on gross gambling revenue (stakes minus winnings), not profits, it effectively wipes out already thin margins and makes large parts of UK-facing online betting unviable.
This won’t kill gambling...I think, but for sure it will shrink UK operations, cut jobs, and push activity offshore rather than raise sustainable tax revenue.
