Good afternoon all,

Been extremely stressed over the past month or so. Long story short, I had some fraud on my bank account and after having to contact all companies it involved, Betfair in the end decided to close my account through no fault of my own. It is costing me money trading daily and after contacting them there’s nothing I can do to get it back.

I was wondering how I would go about creating a new account so it wasn’t closed down straight away. Luckily for me I do live with other people and they can create an account I can use and deposit with their cards etc. However, obviously the same address will go down. Not sure if they will allow this? If they do, would I need to set up a VPN on my laptop or anything to ensure it isn’t closed down again?

All help will be much appreciated in these hard times.

Thanks

Your'e not wrong in that these are hard times.

Firstly are you sure you've exhausted all channels with betfair? Don't be fobbed off by some lowly operator somewhere that can't be bothered.

Second. Do a search on the forum and read the other threads on closed accounts, there's been quite a few lately. You may find something useful among them.Quite a few people managed to get their accounts re-instated. Did you have a crime reference no or some other official acknowlegement of your fraud case? This would be useful to prove your case. Otherwise it's like saying if your'e the victim of a crime you have no rights etc.

lastly before you go down the route of trying to get a friend/relative etc to open an account so that you can trade by proxy, think very carefully about it, think about it some some more and then think about it again.

Betfair take a very dim view of this, they seem to have various methods of catching people doing this. If you go down this route and are found out, it will not help your credibility with Betfair one jot and you can kiss goodbye to ever having an account with them.

As I said do check out the other threads and don't give up hoping you'll get your account re-opened.

Good luck

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated!

I thought I had gone through all options but maybe not. I have most recently contacted the escalations email they have and received this reply below.... I didnt reply instantly to their email as my brother passed away and didn't even look at my emails. Would you suggest emailing them back again or is there anything else I can do?
I will of course look through the forum also!

'Hi Josh,

Thanks for getting in touch.

I trust this e-mail finds you well.

Firstly, we do apologize for the late response from our end as we understand that this is not ideal and we offer our deepest condolences for you loss Josh, we are sure that this is a difficult time.

In relation to your Betfair account however, my colleague Svetlana have sent an e-mail on the 4th of August notifying you of the Business Grounds closure.

Now unfortunately such a decision cannot be reversed as this would remain permanently on your account, meaning that you would be unable to hold a Betfair account.

I understand that the above is not the answer you were looking for and we do apologize for this, however this cannot be overturned.

Thanks,

I am sorry for your loss.

Do look through the other threads. There are other cases about Betfair closing accounts on 'Business Grounds'. Pehaps the experiences of the other posters will be useful. What would be helpful if on reading the other threads you find contacts or teams within Betfair to at least open a dialogue with and find out the reason for the account closure and whether there is any evidence you can provide to get them to reconsider the descision.

There is one other suggestion which really is a longshot. I suggested it on another thread. There is a website called 'The Pogg'. They are a site that reviews online casino. It is possible to join the site as a member as there is a login option. They cite many examples of members accounts with various operators being closed out of the blue. This includes Betfair casino. They also state that they have good successes in getting members online accounts re-instated including Betfair.

Now although you are not casino it wouldn't hurt to try and contact 'The Pogg' and see if they have any suggestions as it seems likely they know the Betfair teams and may be able to offer suggestions as to who to contact.

As I say it's really a longshot but hopefully costs nothing to try?

Good luck

Are closed accounts on Betfair mainly on the sportsbook side rather than the exchange? I'm guessing if they suspect any suspicious activity of money laudenring they just close the account on business grounds. Kind of scary it seems lots of Betfair accounts get closed.
