used to be that politicians were "economical with the truth". These days they simply lie and appear to be saying "prove I'm lying".
This is a very sad state of affairs.

It isn't the same thing. Being economical with the truth isn't a lie. Sunak's £2k tax rises under Labour is very economical with the truth.Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:38 amBeing economical with the truth = lying through your flipping teeth - it's exactly the same thing.greenmark wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:25 amfirlandsfarm wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:02 amI've just heard on the news that the Welsh Assembly is to consider making lying a criminal offence ... politicians legislating to give liars a criminal record![]()

He was touting a Tory estimate over 4 years. That's delberate misinformation.
But none of it is a lie. It's the Tory opinion amplified to look even scarier.
Contrast that with Trump's naked lies during his "debate" with Biden. The world needs to worry about Trump. He's a pathological lying sociopath.

If the far right win the second round in france I wonder where all those immigrants will go along the French coast as Le Penn had vowed to move them out of France. The UK might be getting an influx of tens of thousands. I’m sure Le Penn will give them free boats to cross in.
The far right won't last in France. I don't think the French give a stuff about the idealogical slant of who governs them, so long as they do a half decent job. Le Pen won't do a half decent job. Her party don't have France's interests at heart and they will fail and the French will kick them out.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 1:16 pmIf the far right win the second round in france I wonder where all those immigrants will go along the French coast as Le Penn had vowed to move them out of France. Le Penn or Macron ... France does not want legal immigrants and I have always said they have no motivation to suppress those crossing to the UK.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 1:16 pmIf the far right win the second round in france I wonder where all those immigrants will go along the French coast as Le Penn had vowed to move them out of France. Le Pen : Le Pen is a Breton surname (meaning 'the head', 'the chief' or 'the peninsula'). Never knew that. What's in a name though? Does a name really change someone's view or trajectory in life? Just messing about with this. I despise everything she stands for. A nazi for the 2020's. If she gets a grip on France she could smash the EU and we'd be in a whole heap of lethal bickering. She's dangerous as are all nationalists.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 8:17 amLe Penn or Macron ... Doctor is referring me for an Ultrasound scan of the abdomen, he think it's just a pulled muscle but he wants to make sure. Anyway I want to get it done quickly as I have a holiday upcoming and he doesn't want me doing anything strenuous (such as carrying bags etc.) until he has diagnosed the problem is. So as it only costs £100 - £150 I thought I would go private. Can't believe the bureaucracy! I can't self-refer and to get a referral I have to nominate a private clinic/hospital for the doctor to make a specific referral, he can't/won't make a general referral so I have to phone all the local clinics/hospitals to find out which can do it the fastest. Learnt not to believe their website claims that they can do it in 48 hours. Some can but some only do ultrasound scans perhaps one week a month so only offer a 48 hour service if you are lucky enough for it to be that week in the month! When advising the doctor of my choice I'm told it will take them a week to prepare the referral and to use the NHS will probably be faster!
What a nonsense.
What a nonsense.

I made sure when I took out private insurance in the UK that I didn’t need a referral letter from a GP or NHS hospital. Ended up costing me another £200 per year for the policy change. But worth it assuming you can afford it etc.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 9:58 amDoctor is referring me for an Ultrasound scan of the abdomen, he think it's just a pulled muscle but he wants to make sure. The relationship between private health insurance, providers and GP's is uneasy in my experience. All of my uses of my company BUPA were to get access to physio. It was curious to me that some GP's balked when I said I had BUPA and could they refer me. Others said "Oh great, yes we'll sort that for you".Archery1969 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 10:05 amI made sure when I took out private insurance in the UK that I didn’t need a referral letter from a GP or NHS hospital. But what was odder still was the people that treated me were both private and nhs. So I concluded I must have jumped the queue.
Fair enough I had a job I'd earned, it included BUPA and that was the landscape. But I shouldn't need that for health care IMO. I felt guilty, but I did it anyway because I needed help to get better.

I'm retired and only have insurance for major things (which thankfully I haven't had to make a claim on yet). I use the NHS for minor ailments.
A surgery receptionist is in a very powerful position ... it was she who convinced my wife to tell me not to go private for the scan. She is in a position to dissuade people from going private if it doesn't suit her belief's.
As an over 70 with a previous heart attack and known to have a blocked coronary artery I'm not a good candidate for new PMI!
