Btw don't get suckered into expensive cables. You can't beat std house electric cable that's about 50p a meter.
I got some Ruark MR1 Mk2s last year, and I've been really happy with them. They're small and cost about £300, but sound great, look great, and are really easy to connect to over bluetooth or cables.

In the nineties, I listened to a walkman for years using dirt cheap headphones. When I eventually bought a decent pair it was almost like rediscovering music, hearing sounds on my favourite tracks I never heard before.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 4:58 pmThey're budget for their class, to my ears they're 2 grands worth. Speakers get better with age and I expect to have them for 20yrs so cost per week is trivial if that's one of your pleasures. The DALI spector 2s are fantastic too unless you've got a big room and they're about 200quid at Richer Sounds. Every time you power them up you feel like you did the right thing and that's worth 50p imo. You work hard Derek, you deserve it
As for cables, I've never understood the purpose of gold-plated connectors. They either make contact or they don't!

All my music is now on my hard drive in MP3 format.
You should have done FLAC. That's what I did before I then sold my cd collection.

My old music collection was on tape, and my old tape deck chewed them all up. On the plus side, I built quite an impressive bridge linking two pieces of furniture with my old cassette boxes. It was a talking point. People who visited me thought they were all glued together and wondered what was holding the bottom tapes in place. It was an architectural masterpiece.gazuty wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 11:09 pmMP3?Derek27 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 11:56 amIt's been so long since I've had a Hi-Fi and so much has changed with tapes and CDs obsolete. I blew my ears big time with tinnitus a few years ago, that's why I don't mind spending a few quid on something that sounds good at a moderate volume! Used to have headphones on full whack under my ear defender's to keep me awake at work at night. Clearly intelligent

Can't tell any difference to the free cables they sent me
for what it’s worth Derek I actually used to work in a HiFi shop, back in the day anything from what we used to call “boom boxes”, cheap sub £200~£300 JVC, Kenwood, Aiwa mini/midi HiFi’s up to the dead expensive esoteric sort of thing, my advice is if you like the sound that’s coming out of what ever device you’re listening to then it’s probably the right one for you.
It’s a shame that HiFi shops have diminished over the years, as staff we used to get the chance to take equipment home & try it out with other stuff, like an Audiolab Amp with Rogers Speakers, a Quad CD Player with an Arcam Amp et al, people used to spend a pretty penny on equipment back then.. those were the days, a real enjoyable job

I want this!
They'd have to be sonically orgasmic for me to buy them (if I could). They're flipping hideous!
I like speakers to be visually minimalist as possible, but sound great.
Each to their own eh!
A friend of a friend back in the day had some electrostatic speakers that were each the dimensions of a door.
Did make a great noise though.
