Earlier today Apple became the first $3 trillion dollar company, remarkable considering only two years ago it was still hovering around $1 trillion

That now surpasses the nominal gross domestic products (GDPs) of six of the world's top 10 economies!

Yep, my personal apple (and microsoft) holdings are both 7x my entry point.

Paper profits (and a bit meaningless) for sure, given my super long term holding strategy.

It makes an eye catching newspaper headline but GDP and company valuations aren't at all equivalent. Apples net sales were 'only' around $380bn so they're valued with a P/E ratio of about 8 for starters.

I like the way the papers phrase these things. Is that 6 of the top 10 economies, 96 of the top 100, or 2 of the top 6?
....I think we could all handle the concept of '5th' biggest.

Didn’t Peter post some years ago that Apple were on the brink of going under and Microsoft lent them some money (millions) or was it the other way around ?

Yes, I was in a board room in Houston discussing the imminent demise of Apple. It was almost certain they were about to be declared bankrupt. Remarkable story really!

When you say the other way around, do you mean Peter lent Apple some money (millions)?

Microsoft bought Apple stock in return for a cash investment. They sold it some years later. Could have been a great buy and hold!
