Putin's a political leader.
Israel/Palestine conflict
Only by a narrow definition, probably narrower than the Hamas poltician that got zapped. Although Hamas may well aspire to Putin's level of control.Derek27 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 10:59 amPutin's a political leader.
Big mistake for politicians asking for forgiveness. Sunak tried that! Apologise if you think you've fallen short, but don't ask for forgiveness prime minister Yahoo. You'll get none!

Not much point as the USA will supply them. What it does mean is the company in East Sussex will lose £14 million income and no doubt that will lead to job losses and hence ultimately the tax payer picks up the bill.Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 6:29 pmBig mistake for politicians asking for forgiveness. Turkey’s leader is threatening to send the NATO heavyweight's troops into Israel to intervene on behalf of Palestinians in an escalation of rhetoric that raises fears of wider regional conflict.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told a meeting of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the northeastern city of Rize on the Black Sea that Turkey “must be very strong so that Israel can't do these ridiculous things to Palestine.”
“Just like we entered Karabakh, just like we entered Libya, we will do [something] similar exactly to them," Erdoğa said.
Given Turkey is a NATO country, what happens if the above does happen and Israel fires upon Turkey, doesn’t that initiate Article 5 or is the whole NATO threat meaningless ?

My understanding is you have to be attacked to initiate Article 5, not start a war.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 9:27 pmTurkey’s leader is threatening to send the NATO heavyweight's troops into Israel to intervene on behalf of Palestinians in an escalation of rhetoric that raises fears of wider regional conflict.

So, if the UK, US or Turkey starts a war then Article 5 can never be initiated ?Derek27 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 10:44 pmMy understanding is you have to be attacked to initiate Article 5, not start a war.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 9:27 pmTurkey’s leader is threatening to send the NATO heavyweight's troops into Israel to intervene on behalf of Palestinians in an escalation of rhetoric that raises fears of wider regional conflict.

Yes, it just depends on the definition of starting a war. Apparently, Ukraine started a war with Russia!Archery1969 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 11:25 pmSo, if the UK, US or Turkey starts a war then Article 5 can never be initiated ?Derek27 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 10:44 pmMy understanding is you have to be attacked to initiate Article 5, not start a war.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 9:27 pmTurkey’s leader is threatening to send the NATO heavyweight's troops into Israel to intervene on behalf of Palestinians in an escalation of rhetoric that raises fears of wider regional conflict.

Israel are having an absolute field day. Iranian Republican Guard deputy leader was also killed in the strike that took out the latest Hezbollocks commander. The Israelis appear to have accurate intelligence of the whereabouts and movements of their enemy commanders, and they won't be sleeping easy at night.

The most staggering tagline I have ever read. On the BBC live coverage of the attacks on Hezbollah.
"Where is Lebanon and where did Israel target in Friday night's strikes?".
Where is Lebanon??? I am genuinely shocked by that. Are we so dim, uncaring that we don't know or even can't be bothered to google it. It's staggering that the BBC editorial process thinks that tagline makes sense.

Greenmark, you would be shocked at some people’s geography. I will find the link as I know you like evidence but I saw a survey of American citizens recently and 35% couldn’t name 10 countries in Europe and 18% didn’t know that England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland were separate countries.greenmark wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 6:42 pmThe most staggering tagline I have ever read. Based on the above maybe the BBC think allot of people are thick, maybe ?
It's ok I am aware of that stat about US citizens. But it isn't 100% thankfully.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 6:48 pmGreenmark, you would be shocked at some people’s geography. I guess we forget USA means United STATES of America. Some states are bigger than countries and they all have their own legal system beneath the federal structure. The US was forged by pioneers and I think that mentality is still an American trait.
My grumpiness was about the BBC feeling they need to tell me where Lebanon is. And also I've had hiccups for 2 days and the humour of the situation has evaporated.
