IMO, so ya should be, especially since they allow TAB to operate, what kind of bullshit is that!..... either ban it all or none of it, one or the other... where do these people get off man!...I guess their parents beat them with a stick when they were little or something... Anyway, it's a bummer. Good luck Andy!
Entain pays the government around $40 million a year for the TAB licence, and on top of that they’re required to fund both racing and sport in New Zealand. When the greyhound ban was announced (effective July 31), Entain said they couldn’t meet those obligations without securing a monopoly, because greyhound turnover makes up roughly $180 million a year.
Once they discovered that Kiwis were betting about the same amount offshore, the government shut down overseas operators to protect the TAB’s revenue base.
The bigger issue now is the slow erosion of customer value. For example, the old “Bonus Back” up to $50 for running 2nd–4th has already been cut to $25. That’s the first sign of the squeeze starting.
I’m tracking the football overround to see if that starts creeping up as well. So far it’s holding steady, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on
