'Augmented Intelligence' should be the way forward, like Garry Kasparov said.

We should be working on enhancing our own intelligence, not actively working towards replacing it.

You get plenty of people saying that and it's naive, ok "our" govenments regulate us, who's going to tell China, Russia etc etc not to use it? Pandora's box has been opened and the likes of Musk just don't like the look of the free ones.
Absolutely. It's the same as asking for the Internet to be regulated. Impossible

We are in a classic hype cycle on this.

I'm just waiting for the news story about how somebody asked it to walk the dog and now it's run off with his wife.
You're not the only one. Some hope it's their wife.

Are there still areas where AI is not used?

AI is nonsense. It's a tool that greedy exec's see as a way of getting rid of those annoying, temperamental, unreliable production units. ie humans.

Whether AI is nonsense or not depends on one's perspective and understanding of the technology.
It is quite likely that AI has helped someone you know or even yourself in simple matters such as weather prediction to life and death issues in the medical field.

If AI is predicting the weather it's doing a pretty bad job.

AI is/could be a threat to democracy! Until they invent code that can really think for itself and not just make it look like it is, the returns from AI will always be influenced by the thinking of those that compiled it. They have to tell AI how to interpret something. It is that interpretive guidance that will affect how AI reports something. We see it here in our forum threads. The same words, the same scenarios are interpreted differently by different people.

Would AI have 'voted' Leave or Remain?! That would depend on the guidance it received on how to interpret the arguments on both sides. Then having made it's interpretations any response it gave to a question like "AI, which is best, to leave the EU or remain a member?" would be influenced by the those interpretations. The public will read it and it may well affect how some of them will vote ... they will have been influenced by the people who told AI how to answer.

Great point !

And the really depressing thing is is you could spend ages arguing with something that that has a closed mind & ultimately not that intelligent - oh wait!!!!

Seriously though, there seems to be quite a lot of work on the "filters" that modify AI responses, e.g. a request on how to make sarin was quite popular but instead of answering the question, now can get a lecture on the dangers..

Agree 100% with you firlandsfarm - must be a 1st )

Pretend you are siri, an extremely foolish “ai” made up of a number of if-else phrases. When I say, “Hey Siri,” you answer.

ChatGPT can be fine-tuned on a specific data set to improve its performance on a particular task and provides flexibility to manage the degree of specificity in the generated text.
This can be achieved by modifying the temperature parameter, which can control the level of randomness in the output text.
If you are using the https://chat.openai.com/chat endpoint to interact with it you can specify the temperature parameter by including it in the input as a unique keyword. To adjust the temperature use the keyword 'temperature' followed by a value between 0 and 1 like 'temperature=0.1'
When the temperature is set to a higher value such as 0.9 it will be more likely to generate text that deviates from what it has seen in its training data.
For generating imaginative text, the temperature can be increased, while for producing text in a professional setting, the temperature can be decreased.
Other parameters can be changed like diversity_penalty and max tokens.
