Morning all, I've been lurking here for the best part of a year and trying to take in all I can before embarking on a "trading" journey. A big thanks to ShaunWhite, LinusP, Spreadbetting, Anbell, Gazuty, Peter, Dallas and plenty of others whose names escape me right now.

I have quite a logical and analytical approach to things so the idea of collecting and analysing data appealed. I've spent the last 6/7 months collecting data and have built up a database of several thousand events. I've also watched plenty of markets to get a feel for how things work.

That, I think, is the easy bit. It's time to move on to developing some strategies.

My question is what are the best tools to use to backtest? I have a basic understanding of Excel and Python if that's any use?

I don't expect to win from day 1 but I do want to start off on the right foot with some tested strategies.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
