What does it say in your Event Viewer?

If you do not know how to look at Event Viewer follow this link.

You probably have not implemented the metered connection as Jimibt says.
Yes, I think you are both right... I've only applied it to wifi...

Thank you (all) for the help.... Most appreciated.

Updates available second Tuesday of each month, so late Tuesday check for updates and it should give you the option for the monthly feature updates etc., which you con do then rather than wait til you're working on Wednesday.

Why do they do this? Screwed me up for 2 hours (plus resignation to it past midnight last night).

Just install it before you go to bed. You can use a batch file to shut down your computer when it's finished.

Don't know if the update had anything to do with it but ran a thorough defragmentation job on my older laptop with a physical drive at four this morning. Got up at 9:45 and it was still running!

Could be coincidence but I updated my Windows 10 PC this afternoon and I just got my first ever BSOD in the 5 years I've owned it.

I was under the impression that defragging was redundant these days.

Not if you've got an older computer with a physical hard drive. But even SSDs benefit from occasional defragmentation. Data gets written in blocks, so half filled blocks can become unusable and benefit from occasional consolidation.

Best settings for Windows Server are to set to download but not install, that way they're ready to go and you can manually remote in and restart. I use virtual desktops to split up the bot instances and noting down which bot goes where, and having individual settings profile for each one on BA helps to stay organised post-reboot. About 1x a month seems ok but sometimes I'll leave it longer. If you follow any cyber security news you'll know that some updates will be more critical than others (e.g. exploit patch), so if you want to delay the update it might be worth quickly checking the patch notes.
