Seems a better system. Credit to betfair on new rate structure.
Unlucky on the extra comm rates...

Hi. Just received email about the cancelling of points based comm discount.
It will go to a vip system. But not better im guessing.
Along with this there are extra comm rates for most aus events...
Making it hard...
Kind of wish they focused on increasing market share and volume than turning a bigger profit through the dedicated users they have already...

Have the uk guys seen this increase?
Yep

Trouble is the Auystralian horse racing industry and other codes have little time for the exchange and NSW in particular has no time for the exchange. You can google all of the comments Peter Vlandys has made about Betfair from time to time. Of course the corporate bookies would love to get rid of the exchange. So I take it that we are lucky that Betfair continues to exist in Australia. If there was no exchange, then my earnings drop to zero.

The point about Betfair still running in Aus is well made.

The commission rates/turnover charges/PC are becoming more and more onerous, but better than nothing.

I suppose as Betfair Aus is wholly owned by Crown Casino(Packer), and the lobbyists they have, Betfair would never be forced to leave.

Blackstone just made a bid for Crown

How big are the discount rates for VIP customers?

7% for international players will affect liquidity no doubt, it’s basically doubled my commission rate

Edit: found the VIP rates on slack but looks as though we may as well back with bookies if we don’t access to this, 3-3.6% is fair enough, 7% and you’ll have to have a flawless strategy to win, trading probably still ok though.

I might have said earlier that the base rate discounts on ANZ markets for UK customers no longer applies.... I think I'm wrong about that but expecting clarification which I'll relay in due course.

That's the problem, the Aussies don't know and getting in touch with someone who knows anything in UK is very hard.

Good news Naffman, KG did some digging for us and there's no change to MBR discounts for UK customers but we will be using the new MBRs..

Getting an AM is hard (I don't have one) but there's plenty of people on here who do have one, so it wouldn't have been unreasonable for one of them to have found out and posted some info. This is biggest issue with this forum, 10000s of posts but very little for anyone beyond beginner.

Ditto, and I'll take it that no mention of the discount rates means confirmation there's been no change. Sorry if I cried wolf on this one but as aus was changing to a vip only discount I just didn't trust that no news meant no news where the UK was concerned.

Yeah exactly, just so hard to get clarification especially when I bet half of the money pumped into the Aus market comes from overseas

Nope, that's the problem with AM's, they are less responsive than the forum by a country mile.

I only just got an email about the change. Didn't consider contacting my AM for a moment.

Yeah. I love betfair and not keen on having a rant but they dont do themselves any favours.
They sent the email out with no reference to tier levels on the site.
When i emailed they said it will be there within 24 hours on the hub.
Surely all that should be set up prior to the swap in structure.
It noted on the vip page when it went up that there are additional conditions on the terms and conditions page.
I cant find any.
3 emails later and they just send me the link to vip page. No info on the t&cs.
I can stomach changes and the need to stay viable, but they need to map out the playing conditions a lot more transparently so all the work we put in isnt for naught...

A solution.
An email with a link to hub with the new structure and a link to the vip t&cs for the finer details and a contact for any queries.
And an explanation/example to the term 'at our discretion' so not to imply our comm rates will come down to someone's opinion and not a black and white criteria that it should be...

+1 regarding the lack of communication on calculation of discount.
My discount has been at 30% for months as my points have been in the 30,000 to 40,000 range. Aus based customers for years have had our points converted to an inferior discount than UK based customers, but now that has become worse.

The discount I've been offered under the new VIP tiers is 20%.
Have other Aus based customers also been dealt a reduction of discount ?

Luke.B, when you quote "at our discretion", where is that from ? Does it relate to the discount level or the whole access to the VIP tiers ?

I dont mind the rate bands but these kind of expressions scare me, especially when any modelling is factoring in the discount rates...
And the ref to T&C i cant find anywhere under the T&Cs
