I can't see how to do this through BA. I'm talking of placing an actual intended SP bet not 'taking SP' on an unmatched bet. I can set a high odds and set 'take SP' but I then have no control over the odds achieved as I have when setting an intented SP bet on the Betfair website. Am I missing something?

To be clear, you are talking about placing bet at BSP (Betfair SP)....and not a bet on BF using BA at ISP (Industry SP)?

Yes ArticalBadboy, at Betfair SP sorry if I didn't make that clear in my explanation but it was in the title.

What control do you have over the SP bet odds on the Betfair site ? Are you talking about the exchange or the sportsbook?
If it's the sportsbook, do you really want those odds rather than the exchange SP? I've never compared the two myself but I'd be astonished if they were better. Does anyone here have any numbers on that topic that they want to share?

On the website you can specify a minimum price for SP back bets and a maximum price for SP lay bets, but you can't do either with unmatched bets which have 'Take SP' selected.

Thank you weemac for understandiung my question! I was begining to lose faith in this forum! Why was Sportsbook brought into this ... Bet Angel is Exchange only! But for (hopefully) complete and total avoidance of doubt ...

If I place a Starting Price bet on the Betfair Exchange to secure a back bet at the Betfair Exchange Starting Price for a fixed stake I can set the minimum odds I will accept (and as weemac states if it was a lay bet I can set the maximum odds I will accept). My question was I cannot see how I can do this on Bet Angel.

You could try something like place the bet at 1% or 0.5% above actual BFSP triggering 3 or 4 times within the first 10 or 20 seconds of the race. As long as the BFSP is reconciled within that time then your bet should/could be matched as prices fluctuate unless it goes from start to finish like a scalded cat!

Alternatively you could try Take SP on Unmatched Bets, and have it triggering in-play with the condition that the Fixed Odds, SP is greater than what you want. Not sure if that would work though, just a theory.

Example of the first one below.

Thanks Dublin Flyer, I appreciate all of that ... my point was that it is not the same as just simply placing a BSP bet with a minimum odd limit as you would on Betfair ... I can see the approximate workarounds I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything that would allow me to place an intended direct BSP bet, as I described. Some systems intentionally work on BSP.

I apologies for not being as helpful as you hoped. The Betfair feature you are describing is relatively new and as a Bet Angel user, I never have the need to visit the Betfair website, so therefore didn't know about it. I only mentioned the sportbook as without me having the requisite knowledge it seemed appropriate to clarify your question so that I could be of more help in a subsequent message. Thank you for enlightening me about that feature and the fact the Bet Angel is only for use on the Exchange.

I'm sorry Shaun, I wasn't looking to be critical but the BSP function with a minimum limit on odds has been around for years and I just expected all here would be aware of it but now you explain your misunderstanding I can see the confusion. I apologise if you felt I was being overly critical that was not my intention.

I am completely with you on this firlandsfarm. All my betting (on horses) is at betfair SP, and all my betting is automated via an Excel spreadsheet. There is NO simple way to take a straight forward SP bet, and as you say, NO way to set odds limits like you can on the main betfair site. My workaround is to trigger the BACK or LAY command at 10 seconds before the official start time when it looks like the SP will be in my acceptable range, but request ridiculous odds that I know will be unmatched (1000 for a BACK or 1.01 for a LAY). Then at time zero set a global TAKE SP ALL command for those unmatched bets. It's a bit of a rubbishy workaround but works 95% of the time but occasionally the start time of the race is delayed and the odds will drift and the SP will end up being out of my range but by then it's too late.

There needs to be some sort of command like:

BACK_SP [minimum odds]
LAY_SP [maximum odds]

Please implement this betangel developers!! Apart from this the software is superb and my betting is automated perfectly!

Is there a way to do this in 2020?

I'm not aware of it Bob. I do find it surprising that there seems to be a reluctance in BA to provide this very simple facility. I find using the Take SP option doesn't always get 'taken' and/or if it does then a lay stake gets adjusted for any variance in odds so as to keep the same liability. Also (and I may be wrong in this) I feel that Bf gives priority to directly placed BSP bets over those switched to 'take BSP' at the off. Come on BA, it can't be that difficult can it? :)

So I googled this expecting forum discussion and a quick way to find a thread on it.

I wasnt expecting it to just not be a part of BA at all lol.

Is there really no appetite from users for setting the SP odds limit, as has been available on the betfair website for a very long time?
