'We're gonna build a wall. A big, beautiful wall. And guess who's gonna pay for it? The English!'

" Under the Scotland Act 1998, the Scottish parliament is not allowed to pass legislation relating to matters “reserved” to Westminster, including “the Union of the Kingdoms of Scotland and England”. This is widely interpreted to mean that any referendum relating to Scottish independence would require Westminster’s approval. However, this has never been tested in court,

the court of public opinion is way stronger than legislation , but i see where you coming from.
I'm not sure Boris would act on opinon polls. Perphaps if there was an SNP landslide in the 2022 Scottish local elections the picture might change. But I think that would require some catastrophically bad non-devolved decisions by the UK Parliament that caused real harm in Scottish Tory council areas.
But then politics is as unpredictable as life. So who knows!
Boris embody the oipinion polls, he used to be a journalist and knows how to put on a show.
i guess it all depends on how well keir starmer succeeds in exposing him ,especially when it comes to unkept promises of getting Brexit Done ! the right way and not the fishermen way.
this would harm the scotts torys and give more credence to a referendum with or without consent .
the EU is having a laugh .
they will be more than willing to arm twist the uk on behalf of the scotts.

For an independent Scotland to join the EU, they'd need to adopt the Euro. Ain't gonna happen.

The EU would need to change their own fiscal rules for Scotland to join. Not sure a country can join or adopt the EURO with a deficit equaling 22.4% of GDP (£36.3 billion). Their rules state no higher than 3% of GDP. No doubt the EU would also insist on a hard border too.

But this would all get very political going forward as it seems the EU / World can no longer rely on help from the USA when it comes to security. And if the westminster government follows then that would be a go sign for Putin to start moves on eastern Europe. Plus throw in the millions of Afghans marching towards EU countries and you got one big headache coming asap.

The whole idea of Scottish independence is ridiculous. It wouldn't mean any greater say for your average Scot in domestic affairs. All it would mean is that the SNP rather than the Tories would call the shots.

And it would cause political upheaval that would make Brexit look like a cakewalk (especially as the SNP don't seem keen on accepting Scotland's fair share of the national debt).

The fact that Scottish independence is ridiculous doesn't mean it won't happen! 😂

I don't presume to know when or if another referendum will happen.

We (the British) kept the £ because we elected not to adopt the € when it was launched ... it was sort of 'optional' at the time but now any new country joining the EU now has to adopt the € (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enlargeme ... on%20them.). So unless Scotland can argue "we are not joining we are re-joining" or the EU change the current rule to accommodate them they will have to adopt the € if they want to join.

The Scotts are not to blame for Brexit and they will surely be treated as “rejoining “ or better “remaining”

Yes but even if "rejoining" that doesn't mean the EU will waive the rules just for them and that assumes the EU would want them! Why do you think Hadrian built a wall, it wasn't to keep the English in!

Quite.

I think the EU would also be concerned about English companies buying goods at EU tariff rates in Scotland. I doubt they would agree to a Northern Ireland style solution - I imagine the only reason they agreed to those arrangements for NI was because they thought that Boris was actually crazy enough to go for No Deal Brexit. And with 60% of Scotland's goods being exported to the rest of the UK, a hard border would be unworkable.

Plus, an independent Scotland could be an economic basket case, especially if the price of oil doesn't recover, and I'm sure that Germany doesn't fancy having yet another country to bail out. If would be ironic if the EU were to impose a PM on an 'independent' Scotland, as they did with Italy a few years ago.

Any country (except the hard liners like China) relying on oil sales in this climate conscious world is a basket case!
