But this was inevitable, the media in trying to outdo each other hyped their comment more than the competitor's previous comment. I commented in response to pro-Labour posts here, 'wait until they get hold of Labour! They will attack Labour with everything they can find from their past.' No I don't care about Boris' wallpaper or Keir's glasses (other than to wonder why they were so expensive) but having killed the Conservatives with such tactics would it be right for Labour to be allowed to get off scott free? ... live by the sword, die by the sword. The best way to stop it is for this Government to think before they jump. Don't introduce a policy that they previously claimed could result in 4,000 deaths; don't claim you will smash the gangs when they are operating outside your jurisdiction; don't give train drivers a 22%/£10,000 pay rise and then claim the previous Government left you with a financial black hole that you half created ... and more, and more, and more.
One problem now is all the unions know they can threaten strike action every year until the end of this parliament and Labour has no choice but to cave in. If that continues and the economy doesn’t grow as they wish then further borrowing will go through the roof leaving the next government with even more tied hands behind their back.
The UK is now on a slippery slope to even more chaos than the previous government created.
For the record, I think the train drivers and their union were taking the p***. But that's the world we live in.
Don''t recruit/train enough drivers. Run the system on overtime. What do you expect to happen next? Supply/demand is ugly, but it's inarguable.

There's big trouble ahead
Starmers already showing how incapable he is
Conservatives have lost all credibility.
Looks like the end of the two-party system

Train drivers/union exploited the situation they were in. Not their fault, I do think they over-rated themselves.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 5:30 pmIf you think train drivers are taking the piss then lookup how much tube drivers get!!!!greenmark wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 4:48 pmIronic that right wingers now whinge that a group has used their power to get what they want.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 4:32 pm

But the market suggests they didn't. The train companies tried to cut corners and left themselves under-resourced.
If you don't have enough drivers to cover your schedule you are a sitting duck.
It's the TOC's to blame not the drivers.

Obviously I am byass, won’t apologise for that but starting salary for armed forces after passing training is £25,600. By law you can’t strike or be a member of a union. The latter two points are correct in my opinion. But that was always under the unwritten understanding that the forces would be looked after.
So, after training the now 18 year old gets a whopping £25,600, pays tax, national insurance, £38 per week for food and minimum of £75 for a room while on barracks in the UK.
Then, effectively on call 24/7, no overtime, highly likely to be killed compared to other professions.
Maybe the armed forces should ask Mick Lynch for advice ? Although that would probably mean a court martial.
The world is a funny place….

And the revelations keep mounting day by day! At this rate he will overtake Boris before the end of the year. The whole country now knows he was not at home when he told everyone they must stay at home (a lie by implication, the 'set' was adorned with personal accessories to make it look like his home!) and his son took an additional 1 month freebie in the home given to him for revision after the exams ended. Is there no limit to this man's hypocrisy?

Sorry if that was the case, you were so anti Conservatives I felt sure you would have had a dig!Derek27 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 3:28 pmNever had a problem with conservative freebies. Just the rule breaking.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 3:22 pmSo why the fuss about the Conservatives and their freebies. No, don't tell me Two-tier Starmer thinks he's in the "It's OK for me" tier!
Starmer was challenged by Beth Rigby about the perception of accepting £20K to have his son study in peace for his GCSEs when most people can't afford it. As usual he avoided the question.
Don't know why he didn't simply say that the typical working person whose child is studying for their GCSEs wouldn't have 20 reporters standing outside their house all evening and that their home would act as a peaceful place to study. The answer was there if he thought about it, instead of following the usual routine of avoiding questions.

Baroness Warsi has returned the Tory whip, saying, I'm a conservative and remain so but sadly the current party is far removed from the party I joined and served in cabinet. My decision is a reflection of how far right my party has moved and the hypocrisy and double standards in its treatment of citizens.

I wonder what this is all about, Isabel is very right wing but she has some credibility as a journalist.
