LESTER PIGGOTT
For a couple of decades of my life Piggott WAS horseracing.
An extraordinary man. Winners from 1948 to 1994. Retires at 59?
How does a 5'8'' man hit the weight and still have the strength to man-handle winner after winner?
I would love to hear thoughts from the horse-racing people on here.

Never had the pleasure of watching him ride. Though have loved everything I have ever seen or read about him. RIP.
He was around before either of us was born.
I started taking racing seriously in 1981. That was the year he had part of his ear ripped off after being dragged under the stalls. After coming out of hospital he won the Nell Gwynn and 1000 Guineas on Fairy Footsteps. I bunked off school to watch both of those races.

I believe his funeral is being held tomorrow, around 20/1.
