I'd imagine it happens in the wild a lot and the horse will just lay there and die. At least they get the very highest standard of care. They certainly don't have to wait 12 hours for a horse ambulance.

One reason I switched to automation.
I know it's just turning a blind eye, but racing's only real purpose is entertainment and in 2023 it all looks very brtual and unnecessary. You don't need obstacles to run a race so there's no reason on earth they can't all be flat races.
My PA isn't in today for this exact reason. Her horse was injured overnight probably running from something, but she only found out this morning.
