Any idea on this one plz?
Had experimented real stakes back and lay the place markets recently
There were a few , but highlight one
17/03/23 18.30 wolves moon over sea
Finished 3rd of 7
Layed manually a few seconds before off
Betfair made it a loss?????

Here's an example of a race today.
There are now 7 runners as there was a non-runner this morning. However, the place markets still offer a 4TBP market. If there were originally 7 runners declared (with no NR), then a 3TBP extra place market would be offered not a 4TBP.
With your Lay bet, you were likely thinking the traditional 2TBP for 7 runners would apply after the NR. Betfair settle on 3TBP if bet struck in that market.

Thanks for replies
Im still puzzled Weemac why you lost also
If it was a placepot it would not qualify
Wearthefoxhat- surely the markets were reformed after the non runners therefore 2
places only
OR Maybe automation would be way to go
eg if less than 8 runners Back or Lay X
if more than 7 runners Back or lay X
Therefore 2 instances of BA open?
Looking at tomorrow
The 3.35 Carlisle bf website offer 2 and 3 places (7 runners)
3.50 Chepstow 2 places (5 runners)
If that was a placepot both would be 2 places
Edit
Is it something to do with BA picking up(one of, if more than 1) the place only markets?
ie the above 3.55 carlisle , only 7 runners but markets of 2 and 3 places , would BA pick the 3 places ?

If you're unsure, just click on the rules for the market on the Betfair website.
Who will finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd in this race? NON RUNNERS DO NOT CHANGE THE PLACE TERMS. Should the number of runners be equal to or less than the number of places available as set out above in these rules all bets will be void. Betfair Non-Runner Rule applies. This market will turn IN PLAY at the off with unmatched bets (with the exception of bets for which the "keep" option has been selected) cancelled once the Betfair SP reconciliation process has been completed. Betting will be suspended at the end of the race. This market will initially be settled on a First Past the Post basis. However we will re-settle all bets should the official result at the time of the "weigh-in" announcement differ from any initial settlement. BETS ARE PLACED ON A NAMED HORSE. Dead Heat rules apply.

So when does 7 runners 1 minute from post time( original 8 or 9 that morning)with non runners still be 1st 3 placed
Is that not open to bet a runner to be placed , get same price if 2 non runners later out of 8 or 7 runners
so no rule 4 in effect?

The number of places in a specific Betfair place market never change once live. This rule means if there were 8 runners in the original line-up which then drops down to 3 or less before off then all place bets will be void. In this example, 8, 7, 6, 5, or 4 runners at the off will be 3TP. 3 or less runners will be a voided place market.StellaBot wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 7:22 pmThanks Derek

If you read the market rules it says "Betfair Non-Runner Rule applies". And if you read that rule it says
.
Each horse is allocated a reduction factor, based on its likely chance of winning the race. Should a horse be declared a non-runner, the reduction factor will be applied to the prices of all matched bets, for both backers and layers.
It doesn't make any difference what time they were pulled out, the place terms remain the same. You've been trading long enough StellaBot to realise that.
They don't both win, all bets would be voided. Don't forget the market reforms and reduction factors apply to bets placed pre-withdrawal.
