We have been here long enough to know Bf will do everything they can - including making up new rules, or reinterpreting old rules to wriggle out of this.

surely if it was betfairs error they would suspend the rest of todays races or turn off cross matching to ensure the error doesnt happen again.

In order to lay 21M @29 someone would need 0,6 billion in their account. Possible?

Surely, surely has to be a system error. How could anybody have enough funds to lay that money at that price. Got to be a system error. Have Betfair just taken the mother of all baths on that race?

This is a quote from Barry Orr who tweets as betfairbarry.
He is PR and Horse racing manager for Bf Ireland

"Still investigating in-play market on the Xmas hurdle. Will update once we gain clarity"

I reckon it's an obscure XM issue. When we implemented cross matching we noticed that if we didn't trap errors it could create really odd errors with unusual matches and amounts appearing all over the show. We only knew this because we saw the same issue with dutching many years ago. Maybe Betfair didn't look for the same issue?

Betfair announcement

The win and place markets on this race are currently suspended.

The markets will remain unsettled while we investigate the in-running betting patterns on this race.

We apologise for the delay.

Someone must be really nervous now. If it's a xm error, maybe it can be forced to happen, given the right market circunstances?
