It would be great if someone at Betfair would check the labels on races.

Today's 19:10 at Southwell is down as a 2m Mdn when it should be a 2m Mdn NHF.
Frustrating. They must have changed a process recently because this hardly ever happened until a couple of months ago.

Agreed. But it's now been sorted, so clearly BF is monitoring this forum and thread. At least I can use my usual automations now.

One thing I've also noticed when looking at the historical BF data is the frequent inconsistency applied on handicap races. One recurring example is when it's an apprentice handicap. Sometimes the label is 'App Hcap' and sometimes it's just 'Hcap'.

I've been doing a massive data cleanse of late and fortunately have the Racing Post names, so I can easily identify mislabelling.

Today's last race at Downpatrick at 18:22 is labelled a 2m3f Stks race when it should be 2m3f INHF.

How's everyone finding the markets this week? The markets seem really weak to me - liquidity is really poor.

I think the markets this afternoon have been the worst I've ever seen - lack of liquidity and lack of movement = terrible trading conditions.  It's like everyone took the day off - struggled to stay awake.

I don't know if the amount of handicaps in the UK markets lately is causing disinterest - all 6 races at Chepstow this afternoon were handicaps.  It seems the Irish racing has a better balance at the moment, but not experienced enough to know if this is normal at this time of year or not.

Be interested to hear thoughts from the more experienced traders regarding the state of horse racing:

The tiny field sizes!

The fact that the final race has been cancelled at Newbury on Saturday due to terrible prize money!

The upcoming gambling review which will lead to even worse liquidity!

The fact that Betfair seem more concerned with their sportsbook and online casino than their Exchange!

Is pre-off horse racing something I should really be focusing all my attention on considering all this uncertainty. Basically is this the worst it has ever been or at least the worst it has been in the last 10 years?  I noticed Peter hasn't delivered a masterclass in years and wondering if this is linked to the above?

All comments much appreciated, thanks.

It's a grim picture that is for sure with the nags, the slow inexorable decline is likely going to accelerate into something very serious. A microcosm of Blighty itself perhaps.

Is it just me or are the markets behaving very strangely today.

Looks like an early start next Tuesday, Southwell have brought forward first race to 10am on their jumps card to avoid worst of heat. But wouldn't surprise me if all racing were postponed Monday and Tuesday, it will be unbearable.

I wouldn't believe everything you read in the media. It might be a washout.

Makes sense.

Ridiculous to expect horses to run in that kind of heat.

It'll be deemed perfectly acceptable for humans in Qatar though.

Ah, but footballers are not being ridden in such conditions. Unless they pay extra
