They need a Gordon Brown. When you think back to the days when we only had betting shops and 9% tax it makes you wonder how we made a buck.

This is new! I traded Canberra and didn't look because I knew it wasn't on 'Turnover Charge territory'
It's just 10% or it's included in TO markets? If it's included, I may pay some money back for last week
Any news on this, Derek?
I think I found something. So it's game over for me with NSW markets, if the new rule with AUS $1,000 allowance is true for all customers

Cheers, Mcgoo, for notifying us.
No, I still haven't heard anything from Betfair but I didn't trade NSW last week. They have a habit of changing the rules without telling you.
Thanks for the warning McGoo. I've just checked and Bumfair's updated their terms & conditions to $1000. I would have been badly stung if you hadn't alerted me.
I haven't read this but it may contain your answer.

Several of the larger AU bookmakers are currently advocating on behalf of Betfair for a change in the exchange taxation model. They recognise how important it is for Betfair to thrive but the way things are going, BFAU is going to be all but dead soon. They can't absorb any more of the fees, traders are being driven out of the markets (as evidenced by several posts here) and punters will shop elsewhere as BO4 is now a superior product in most cases.
Sad state of affairs.

Apart from NSW tracks, Betfair is still growing in Australia and on a Saturday often posts more matched turnover than a lot of UK racing.
The Group 1 at Flemington matched £803k this morning.
If Aussie bookmakers try and shut out the exchange they are stupid. It's one of few ways that people in the UK and ROW can bet on Aussie racing. It's incremental revenue.
