yes its fkd again................... cant load markets in Guardian here... anyone else ?
I would use Betdaq but the automation options for BA on the free version is not so good, maybe BA should develop that a bit more and then we would have more resilience, of course they could increase the fee, but we would at least then have a reliable option, Betfair just dont give a toss imho, they have market dominance and their attitude seems to be "if you dont like it leave" oh wait you cant as there is nowhere else. Seems silly to have a great piece of software in front of you but you cant use it as the exchange owners are a bunch of jerks.

I wonder if we had a mass user outage i.e. we all just did not use the exchange for a day, what then, would they dm us and we could reply sorry for not using you but were pissed of with your service we are sitting and thinking about using it again, but we apologise for the delay.
When this happened yesterday morning I thought about Betdaq, but didn't get round to it. Perhaps I might take a look today! As I understand it the BA version for that is free but has less features, right?
Correct, not as much automation and a bit more basic but it is free and if your trading manually it would work, as usual liquidity is the problem but if more betair users were trading betdaq then that may pick up ........... or maybe thats unbetfairs plan, so they can then switch of the exchange and just go sportsbook and reduce all the equipment and staff required to keep the exchange online.....?

Got a call from Betfair to say sorry for the outages this week and to explain the issues.

They are probably going to email customers this evening.

They also assured me that they are not looking to do any work in the coming period to protect the easter weekend markets and the Aintree grand national meeting. So you should be able to trade with confidence on during this period.

Just thought I'd let you know.

You used to be an IT guy Peter, can you imagine having to word the problem in such a way that everyone can understand. :D

But I'm not even sure knowing why things have happened adds anything to the experience, what are people supposed to do with that knowledge? 'Nice' to know I guess but ultimately a waste of mental energy with no +EV.

It wasn't an April fools its a genuine update.

On this occasion I'm glad they've taken the time to give some sort of reassurance it'll be getting left along till after Aintree

I was thinking of posting one myself but I did it last year so thought I'd let someone else have a go. :)

It looks like they're only sending emails to people actively trading when the exchange went down, as I wasn't trading at the time and haven't received one.

I've received one and wasn't active when it went. But I didn't get the email until I logged on late this morning. I think its fair enough."Sorry, we messed up", but it clearly left a number of people in loss-making positions, which persists to be a dodgy situaton given the nature of the exchange and how it's used. I doubt the stock exchange has outages. But I guess they have inexhaustable resources. BF don't.

Individual channels do go down briefly. The biggest difference is that financial exchanges have downtime to do maintenance or implementations, Betfair are expected to operate 247365.

Y, that's why I didn't comment on what the actual problems were. Without context it's pointless really and it's so hard to give that context.

All I can do is say I understand them and it's very unlikely to be an issue next week.

I was inconvenienced and redded by that outage but I also never received any email apology!
