the rule should be as simple as this.

if a players foot is a complete foot length infront of the defender then that player is offside. the measurements should be taken from the feet only.
if this was implemented then there would be no grey areas, as a foot is a big margin for error.

Width of ball surely as that is what is needed for a goal and to cross any line in the field of play, apart from for an offside?

Will be interesting to see how many clearly offside goals will stand with this ruling

Your head could be a yard offside but the goal will stand because your toe is onside. From a defending point of view it will be practically impossible to hold a line.

Wenger is also advocating scrapping throw ins and having kick ins instead, allowing players to take free kicks to themselves and letting corner kicks that go out of play and come back in stand as valid. The game will be even more of a circus than it is if he has his way.

That will never catch on, it sounds too much like common sense!

Not sure this new rule would change the VAR or grey area scenarios.
What it would do is give attackers an advantage.
An attacker could be an entire stride ahead of a defender and still be onside.
And, I assume, a diving header would be within the rules if an attacker's entire body, apart from one small goal-scoring piece of anatomy was level with some undefined part of a defender's anatomy.

Its a total over reaction to a total over reaction and it seems to have been sparked by what goes on in the Premier League

Other leagues had their teething problems with this but have since managed to play a game of football without there being a controversy every 5 minutes, but the Premier League can't seem to get it right so the rules need to be re-written.
