Nice piece on the big three: -

If you were to look at it from stats alone then Nadal is the 'greatest'. He has won his 20 majors from just 60 entries so a 33% success rate, Djokovic is 17 from 61 (28%) and Federer is 20 from 79 (25.31%). Nadal also has the superior head to head in slams, 10-4 over Federer and 10-6 over Djokovic. I think he has the best career win rate on the tour as well.

But if the three of them were at their peak at the same time I think Federer would be the greatest mostly because of the amount of cheap points he was able to get with his serve.

There are plenty of things Djokovic has achieved that neither Federer or Nadal has achieved.

Djokovic has won all 9 Masters Series tournaments at least twice - neither Federer or Nadal has even won all 9 once.

Djokovic is likely to finish having been World No.1 by many more weeks than Federer or Nadal.

A big event for all three is the Olympic Games Singles next year in Japan as neither Federer or Djokovic has won the singles, whereas Nadal has.

I think history will show Djokovic to be the 'most successful player' of his generation over both Federer and Djokovic. Note I say 'most successful player' and not 'best player'.

It depends how you want to look at it. Weeks at No 1 will probably have some bearing, I agree I think Djokovic will likely end with most of anybody but as you mention the Olympics Nadal has won the singles gold and the doubles gold, Djokovic only has a bronze.

The 'most successful player' tag will ultimately come down to who wins the most majors. A 'tie-break' after that could be Olympic titles, then maybe Masters 1000 titles (pretty much neck and neck between the two, Djokovic (36) and Nadal (35), below that you could factor in Davis Cups Djokovic (1) and Nadal (5) then maybe weeks at #1. Sampras, Lendl and Connors will likely finish ahead of Nadal for weeks at #1 but none of those three are even in the conversation for the most successful of all time anymore.

Will be great to watch going forward though, that French Open victory could be worth more than just 1 major to Nadal, Djokovic has had Nadal in his pocket in Majors before that for quite a while, be interesting to see how he responds. Roll on Australia!

I'll post all of their various wins which include:

Grand Slam Tournament Wins
Masters 1000 Series Wins
Davis Cup Wins
Olympic Gold Medal Wins
ATP Final Wins
Weeks at #1

What the final analysis could come down to is who has won the most GS 'Full Houses' - all currently on 1 as Federer x 1 French Open (2009), Nadal x 1 Australian Open (2009) and Djokovic x 1 French Open (2016).

GS Full House is an interesting one :)

All three of them are in with a shot of becoming the first male player to win each major at least twice. Nadal will have first crack in the AO.

...not the first Pat, but they would be the second male player after 'Rocket' Rod Laver who won them all in '62 and '69 :)

its not just about winning a few more titles, many more people turn up to watch Federer play and you could objectively say he plays with a lot more flair/style than Djokovic
Tennis more popular overall because of Federer and Nadal, Djokovic not so much

...definitely - the one-handed backhand is a thing of beauty!

Djokovic doesn't really have a natural 'opponent', even though he and Nadal have played each other quite a lot more than Federer and Nadal.

40 - Federer 16-24 Nadal (40.0% / 60.0%)
56 - Djokovic 29-27 Nadal (51.8% / 48.2%)
50 - Federer 23-27 Djokovic (46.0% / 64.0%)
36 - Djokovic 25-11 Murray (69.4% / 30.6%)
