To me it's a no brainer he should be disqualified. It will not be for taking the drop which was illegal but for signing an incorrect scorecard.

We will now see if it is one rule for Tiger Woods and another for the rest. I pray they don't come out with some woolly guff like "it's inconclusive on the replay that he was 2 yards away" which Augusta would not normally do but who knows?

I am by no means an expert, but what option have they got. They have to disqualify!
Lay that Tiger!!

Well if you watch where the ball crossed into the hazard it was to the left of original target line. That means Tiger did not take the option of keeping the point at which the ball crossed into the hazard and the flag and then going backwards as far as he chooses before dropping.

He admitted he did not like the potential lie in the drop zone so that wasn't taken as an option.

It looks to me as if he choose the option Proceed under the stroke and distance provision of Rule 27-1 by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played and in the modern game a caddie and/or a player would know where the shot was played from. He would have been given an exact yardage and would have chosen a spot at which he would aim. Now he is not required to find the exact spot, just as close as possible.

In the post round interview he basically signed his own death warrant when he said he probably dropped it 2 yards further back. It will be very easy for the officials to replay the original shot, compare it with the penalty shot, use Tiger's "2 yard" comment and then DQ him.

The only thing is, I have not seen anything to suggest that the officials are looking into this. At the moment it is only speculation by jounalists.
I just wonder if there may be a technical reason why he may not be dq'ed or penalised now.

I think betfair ought to suspend trading.

I've been on the phone this morning. A journo is the one who broke the story and this was before Augusta even knew of it. So it's all speculation until Augusta say something. Reports that officials 'will look at it' but a DQ can only occur if they rule the drop was illegal and he signed for the wrong score. But an official was present so, judgement may fall on that if they do look into it.

Well apparently the Masters Officials have said they will investigate this matter on Saturday morning. I don't know what time that will be.

As an ex-caddie and Golfer I can assure you there is no technical reason which would prevent his disqualification.

The official is there to answer questions on the rules or make a ruling on things like who is away. If asked they will give a ruling but many times it is the player who informs the official and adjusts the scorecard accordingly.

Remember Ian Woosnam when he had 15 clubs in his bag for the 2012 Open? He had John Paramor with him, one of the finest rules officials in the game. However, Paramor knew nothing of the breach and it was Woosnam who informed him he had one too many clubs. He took the 2 shot penalty and it meant he was 2nd overall.

ESPN reporting that Tiger Woods will take a two-shot penalty for an illegal drop on 15 yesterday.

So he took the two shot penalty or he will take the two shot penalty. If it's the latter then he will be Disqualified as he would have signed for an incorrect scorecard.

Tiger Woods given a two-shot penalty at the Masters but not disqualified after an incorrect drop shot in Second Round

Make of that what you will.

It's a bloody disgrace that's what it is. Like I said, 1 rule for Tiger and another for the rest. I have never heard of a retrospective penalty in Golf, you sign for the incorrect score and you are disqualified.

It makes a mockery of the game! I hope he has a 'mare in rounds 3 and 4, makes me sick to my stomach!

Going to open up an opportunity for somebody though. Should be an interesting third day.
