could this soon be happening on betfair: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-36734518
given the unyielding popularity of gaming, i'd imagine it's a short imaginative step to both live streaming and trading on this.

ahh right, so obviously betfair are getting themselves ready for this market to take shape. as you say, not a lot on there at the moment but will be interesting to see if the FIFA angle takes off over the next year or so with the bigger clubs.

I had no idea this even existed, just listen to the first 12 mins of this video for educational purposes to see this whole industry worth almost billions of dollars, going on right under our noses,if any one could catch just a very small half a percent of this ,they would be very very very rich.

I was only talking to my son abot this last night.
I read recently that Manchester City had just signed their first E-Sports player

I think Pinnacle have markets for it and more recently betfair have added a few too
I think it will be massive in the future
Regards
Peter

There was a thread on here the other week discussing this - will try to find it. Had a few interesting links from memory.
Gaming is such a huge industry but a lot of people still seem to look down their nose at adults playing games as they just shrug it of as, games are for kids. How wrong are they. The amount of money spent on gaming is huge and some of the companies involved are worth fortunes understandably given the size of the market.
Edit:

andy - yeah, i started off that other thread as it really make a coin drop on reading the profile of the esport signings for man-u. just made me think how big it could become, especially as we watch our kids play fifa etc during this (so far) rainy summer holiday. should make for an interesting time in the coming d/m/yyy'sandyfuller wrote:There was a thread on here the other week discussing this - will try to find it. looks like this sector is hotting up again, with the liklihood of many major clubs joining the bandwagon: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-37194995

Im interested to hear if anybody else is giving eSports much attention at the moment?
I've been playing them all my life but have been looking into the markets (currently not listed on exchanges, or £0 matched if so) on various bookie sites over the past year.
Without too much sophisticated research, it's clear that there is a great deal of value to be had. It would be great to find ways of recording even more data than what is currently available and comparing that to odds movements in-play.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with eSports: They are computer games that people play professionally. Fifa, CS:GO, League of Legends are just some of the titles that are currently popular and attracting some betting attention.
There are tonnes of great stat sites available for free online including my favourite (for the game CS:GO): HLTV. Here's a typical teams stats page:

Interested to hear your thoughts and if anybody else is paying attention to it!

Wait, what exactly were they doing ? Article isnt very clear to me
The only bit that made sense to me was agreeing with Dallas and my gibberish. Maybe should have advertised as a #beta version with practice mode? Hence let's put this thread under one heading - dunno what Dallas wants to call it - but I can provide an excellent choice of swear words.
