Hi,

I'm interested in scalping and swing trading the pre-race horse racing markets but because I'm new I don't know where exactly to start learning.

So, essentially I have 2 questions :

1) How important is technical analysis for scalping/swing trading ?

2) Exactly what elements ( trends, moving averages, patterns, etc... ) from technical analysis are essential to scalping/swing trading ?

3) Are there any sort of material ( books, articles, videos, etc... ) that are useful studying for scalping/swing trading ?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Everyone has different techniques and sees things differently, but generally TA is not something that scalpers would focus on. Some swing traders may use it and I'm sure they can tell you better than me but remember that the racing markets are unique and anything you may learn and apply from other markets needs to take that into account

Scalping needs a high strike rate to suceed, swing trading some big profits. Just start using the minimum stake to get used to things and build out from there. I don't use any technical indicators but do use advanced charting to work out if a trend is developing or whether something is moving quickly that may affect the horse I am trading.

I'm starting this blog to keep records of my progress. I'll only be trading during weekends and using minimum stakes in the beginning.

Yes, it's dead, I lost motivation to be playing with such low stakes with a 4-digits bank.

I have started something slightly different with some decent stakes, enough to make a living at least, although I'm still new to horse racing markets but I'm pretty much breaking-even at the moment.

rpadrela I see you are not having much luck with your profit /loss sheet.

Try this http://www.juicestorm.com/betfairgen/, and stay away from those Trojan’s.

Yes, I'm struggling to even break-even but I'll achieve my goal, have no doubts about that.
