NEXT year's fixture list is set to include the richest meeting in British racing history, it was announced on Friday.

The creation of a new-look Champions Day, which will offer more than £3 million in prize-money, is the most significant fixture move in a list of 1,480 meetings for 2011, down 23 on this year.

Publication of the list was delayed by two months due to funding issues, and not all of next year's fixtures will receive Levy Board prize-money. Contributions from the board will be allocated to 1,298 fixtures, down 164 on this year.

Champions Day is due to be held at Ascot on October 15, despite the previous reservations of French racing's ruling body France-Galop - and the protestations of those who reckon moving the Champion Stakes from Newmarket will completely devalue the history of the Group 1 race.

Thumbs up! :D

Several other big meetings are being transferred to Saturdays as part of a move to broaden the sport's appeal.

York's Ebor Festival and the July Cup meeting at Newmarket will both culminate on a Saturday, rather than a Friday.

Sandown's National Hunt season finale will take place over the Easter weekend, while the Becher Chase at Aintree switches from Sunday to Saturday and Newbury stages its Challow Hurdle fixture two days later than usual on New Year's Eve.

At first glance it looks like most of the meetings have been lost on a Sunday? I can see lots of two card days on a Sunday. so this appears to be where the missing meetings have gone. Other than that I can't see that much change outside of the headline shuffles.

I thought they were going to slash 250 fixtures or something?

On sundays you often get an Irish meeting so that might still make it up to a 3 meeting day hopefully. If not Sunday will become the day to have off I guess.

They talked about cutting 250 meetings but that seems to have just been talk to scare people and highlight the fall in Levy I guess. Several of the meetings that were going to be cut but aren't now are being funded by racecourses rather than the Levy. There seems to be more of a shift of power in deciding what goes on and doesn't go in away from the BHA but to the race courses and the horse mans group.

This article explains the additional fixture funding:

Hopefully this will result in a long awaited increase in Turkish racing markets. :)

Seriously though I do ok with the French, German, Italian racing when it is shown on ATR on a Sunday.

by the look of it UK races are cut by 23 which is not a lot. The only problem we might have if they change schedule to one race every 30min.

a nicer version of the list of fixtures:
