They will bomb. Racecourses are scrambling to get huge TV vans at the courses, so people can come and watch the game at the racecourse. I'd imagine anybody who doesn't do that, will get very low attendance.

as a United fan I was behind the goal at the Champions League Final back in '08, watching John Terry march up to the penalty spot to win the trophy was probably the most sickening feeling I've EVER had, trust me euphoria broke out when he hit the post, will never ever experience anything like that again.. ever, best night of my life

If I'd known those before I'd have cleaned up. Gamblers Falacy, mean reversion, trends never continue ad infinitum etc etc etc how could we not win? Or doesn't football work like that?

I didn't trade it but I did have a small bet at half time on a penalty taken. A penny was always on the cards imo. 3.6 seemed fair but I was totally blind about the true value to be honest.

It's a good job Columbia did fool around at first. Once they got serious they played a lot better.

Bearing in mind I'm not a football fan, I was quite surprise to hear we never won a World Cup penalty shoot-out before, but I was much less surprised when I heard we only had three previous WC penalty shoot-outs.

On a slightly different subject, I remember the 1978 WC in Argentina, won by Argentina. 16 teams, 4 groups of 4, top 2 of each group went through to form 2 groups of 4. Top 2 of each group made the semi-final. A second group stage before the knockout, like they had in 1978, would reward qualifying teams with another 3 games and drastically reduce the number of penalty shoot-outs.

How about 8 groups of 6, each team has at least 5 matches, winner of each group making the quarter-finals.

I remember a major tournament, can't remember whether it was WC or Euro, where you had 24 teams, 6 groups of 4, and 16 went through to the knockout stage, which I thought was ridiculous.
