Are Rooney's days at Old Trafford numbered?

Football, Soccer - whatever you call it. It is the beautiful game.

For some reason, Real Madrid commonly deny interest in a player, only to buy him, so I wouldn't read too much into what they say.
Can't see Mourinho paying so much money for a player like Rooney right now. Look at the transfers he's made this season... Di Maria was the most expensive player, but he didn't want to spend the same on David Luiz, buying Ricardo Carvalho instead.
Players like Ozil and Khedira were bargains. On the other hand, Real Madrid do need a striker, but Rooney doesn't look like the kind of striker Mourinho likes. I think he would be way happier signing Torres, who is cheaper, smarter and spanish. :D

Rooney's quoted as saying: "During those meetings in August I asked for assurances about the continued ability of the club to attract the top players in the world."

Looks like that's the nub of it.

I can think of only 5 clubs with arguably better players than Man U: AC Milan, Barcelona, Real Madrid, City and Chelski.

And if a bidding war breaks out, I think the winner will have to be City or Chelski, given that the other clubs aren't owned by billionaires who aren't bothered by something as trivial as making a profit.

What do you guys think?

I think that given the fact that Drogba won't be around forever, Rooney would be more interesting to Chelsea. Players have already said he would be welcome, but the market is considering the move to City more likely.

I've read that this was due to the fact that Rooney wanted to please his wife, but I wouldn't put a coin on this man's loyalty these days :D

I was impressed to see that a tiny amount of money was matched @810 in the Chelsea selection, which is an enormous odd!

I also notice somebody had a bet matched at 1000 for both Real Madrid and Barcelona

Possibly.

I think Rooney would want to start every game playing in a position where he had the best possible chance of scoring goals. He won't want to go back to the situation he was in when Ronaldo was at United. And with Drogba and Anelka in such great form, I don't know if that's something he'd get at Chelsea.

I don't know how Rooney feels about his marriage. But he's devoted to his son Kai, and, for that reason, I think he'll avoid doing anything that could result in him seeing less of him.

BTW, I think Rooney and Tevez would be a deadly combination! Both are creative, attacking players who can set up and put away goals.

Smells like a tapping up to me, someone must have had a word in his ear this summer for him and his agent to be behaving like this. Chelsea have got previous form for this on several occasions and if neccessary would have sent their 'agents' like Terry and Lampard to do the dirty work for them during the WC (Drogba is 33 now and can't go on forever), not that I'd put it past this new City regime.

I can't believe Real Or Barca would be the ones, Real don't want to change their team in January so the timing for all this would be wrong and Barca don't have the cash, they actually had to pay their players a few days late this summer due to their financial problems.

I think the quote below sums up part of the reason why Sir Alex has been so successful. If he were a horse racing punter, he'd make a fortune betting on horses over 20/1 with bags of potential!

From http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 112841.stm:

"A player said to me [in 2004 that] Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo were not good enough and he wasn't prepared to wait," recounted Ferguson.

"That is the problem with potential. People don't identify potential. We are very good at it. I have identified it all my life. I know potential. I know where it can be developed and how to develop it. I have faith in it.

"That is what this club is about. When you see Manchester United at the moment, with 14 players under 22, you don't see the Manchester United for years ahead."

It's great news, although I hope that this had nothing to do with his decision: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... ester-city

What do you mean with this?

OT: maybe this has schacken Man Utd ambitions? it has been reported there was a scout watching Hulk at Turkey and believe me he is the kind of player that can have an immediate impact on any team. But I guess that's something all Man Utd fans remember :D
