before everyone hibernates for the rest of year. if anyone who is a horse racing fan and in particular a nat hunt fan please consider waking up for a short while on sunday evening and vote for A.P.McCOY.

It would be a nice boost for racing to close out the year on a high as oppossed to all the negative stuff going around lately.

tont mccoy really does deserve it/earnt it(my opinion)

I doubt anyone outside racing even knows who he is, 1.8 looks a very short price for what's basically a popularity contest. But it is a poor field this year so he's got to be in with a chance.

The competition has a tendancy to overturn short priced favourites. I'd love McCoy to win but I think somebody else may nip him at the post.

He's done it, McCoy is sports personality of the year. Great news for racing.

I think he's been helped by the recent rule changes where the BBC list a shortlisted 10

This meant he was up against a darts player, heptathlete, bobsleigh etc

There was a massive campaign on Twitter. If you were on there tonight it was going mental urging people to vote for AP McCoy. I was on there and it was even trending worldwide!!

I think what really helped was having two golfers in Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell which meant the golfing vote was divided. I think that's why neither made the top 3?!?

I think the award should have gone to Graeme Swann.

What the cricketers have done in Australia is nothing short of rare and extraordinary. Unlike our footballers, our cricketers have played with tremendous passion, and pulled off an amazing comeback. I'd say that's far more impressive than winning the Grand National...

it’s not just the grand national. the national was the missing piece. what about his (mccoys) excellent record, attitude and perseverance.
as swan archived the equivalent or bettered mccoy, and is he likely to?

Didn't we just lose badly in the 2nd test. We are playing probably the worst Aussie team ever. Strauss is still as indecisive as ever and we get every bit of good luck and fortune possible. We were lucky to win the last Ashese series where once again everything went our way. Swann is a good cricketer but he will never achieve the heights of AP McCoy

McCoy has had an excellent career, And in terms of his cumulative achievement to his sport, he may well surpass Swann. But such a contribution is perhaps best reflected in a lifetime achievement award.

I just think it would have been nice for Swann's part in a comeback which has been unparalled since Botham's heroics in the 80s to have been recognized with an award, particularly as Swann is ECB Cricketer of the Year.
