Don't you love the way that Betfair don't give you any advance warning that they will apply their data request charge?

What it can mean is that you can't close a trade because Betfair thinks you have insufficient funds, even if closing the trade would mean greening up!

Superb!

What would be wrong with applying the charge at midnight, when few people would be likely to be closing trades?!?

Hey Jeff

Bearing in mind you spend 8 hours a day on the BA forum and Plenty of fish, where do you find the time to rack up data request charges?

:D

I am (although hopefully that will change soon!). :)

I'm not quite sure how I managed to incur this data charge!

I sometimes have a couple of things on the boil at once, so that may be it.

People say that you can incurr it if you have two instances of trading software running at the same time, so maybe that's it

Could be, although I didn't think I did on the day in question.

I may have logged into my account using Firefox whilst running Bet Angel - perhaps that tipped it over the scales.

No, that's just because I've got too much time on my hands! And, if I'm honest, because I've been putting off knuckling down and resuming writing the novel I last worked on about 2 months ago! :)

Does anyone know if you can avoid data request charges by setting up multiple accounts?

Or does Betfair link the accounts?

the email is the link, they charge the requests couming from the same email as if it were one account.
Any way, I use several instances of BA open at the same time and am very careful with the settings, because it's not enough to add up to 20, that can still cause an overcharge, wheras one instance alone can have the setting at 20 and be fine. it's a complicated calculation splitting the second and synchronization between Betfair and Bet Angel, so the solution is, if you have several instances of BA open, to have the settings adding up to a maximum of 15.

Thanks Corbus

You'd have thought that, in 2011, Betfair's servers would be powerful enough to cope with more than 20 hits per second per user!

I'm a little nervous about opening more than 1 BA because BF hit me big time for data requests

I know a user who had 3 BA open with a setting of 6, but got hit

When you have more than 1 copy of BA open with a combined setting of 15, is the quality affected too much?

I'm interested because we have the Ashes + Aussie Tennis going on right now, but I'm kind of missing out due to everything else going on.
I'm like a broken record (I know that), but BA's set up of having to open 2 programs to access both Aussie & ROW markets is the biggest limitation of this software

Question for the computer experts -

Would it be possible for Betfair to make it impossible for anyone to exceed 20 requests per second?

If so, surely that would be better than charging people for doing so, and forcing people to mess about with their settings to make sure that they don't breach the limit.
