Simple answer if you are looking for data retrospectively then the Sporting Life results shows this info - see image below .
Alternatively if you are looking to automate capturing this data yourself then you can use use Guardian > Excel and write an Excel macro. I think excel cell G1 gets set to "In-play" when the race goes in play so you code your macro to look for that then save the time the race first goes in play in an unused cell or a separate worksheet. Just be aware that races sometimes have false starts though particularly National Hunt. Also be aware that races can go back in play if there is a photo finish or a stewards enquiry.

Cheers Wolf! That's exactly what I was looking for, thanx for Sporting Life tip. I tested some automation (trading with tick offset ) and I set it to stop 10 seconds before event start and automation placed bets after market went in play and I still don't know why. I think I should add a new condition for market status and select " market not in play"Wolf1877 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2019 9:10 am

Eventually you'll jut get used to others being in the house, I remember trading with kids on my lap trying to press buttons in my early days
But yes, it's a lot easier in an empty house.

Did or does everyone have a breakthrough moment with trading horses where it just clicks all of a sudden or is it more of a gradual process? I've been trying to crack the pre-race markets on and off for a few years, anything from manully scalping/swing trading to fully automated.
I've had success that doesn't seem to last more than a week but the past few weeks I've been using a couple of Dallas's servants that I've amended for my own use and I seemed to have turned a corner. I'm still in profit which is one thing but I just have this nagging doubt in my head that it's just luck, it doesn't really feel like I expected, it just feels like I'm waiting for another big blow up rather than that "yes I've finally nailed it!" feeling.

Mobius,
I think it’s a case of ingraining market behaviour through experience, I don’t think there is anyone (correct me anyone if I’m wrong), that has managed to nail pre race trading from day one, I’ve countless hours of recordings of markets where I’ve captured various angles of how moves occur & I watch these whenever I get a spare moment, & I do mean whenever,
I’m quite fortunate to have Mon & Tues off work so along with finishing work early on Saturdays with me being free on Sunday I have nigh on four days where I “study”, I don’t think there’s many people that are this fortunate, what I’m getting at is that it takes time, like what Euler mentions in his latest video,
.. it’s akin to learning to ride a bike, when you finally get competent enough to stay on without stabilisers & find your balance you then learn to tackle different terrain, those that are rough & bumpy require extreme care & attention & there are those that are nice & smooth which you can read from quite far off where you can really go for it, but unless you’ve been there before you don’t know how to anticipate the ride.
