As long as they are observing social distancing rules, should be ok....

Could be that food prices rise in the autumn. Many of the farmers round here aren't drilling this year. Concerns over a possible shortage of labourers and no progress on export deals means they're taking a known loss and leaving fields empty rather than risking a bigger loss by growing something that has to be maintained and then be uneconomical to harvest. So much for the bright new Brexit future, the virus obviously hasn't helped but farming needs forward planning and promising last minute cobbled together deals isn't good enough, so the fields round here are brown still rather than being fresh green shoots. (well there are green shoots actually but it's just grass for silage or stuff to be ploughed in as soil improver.)

Don't blame them. The ridiculous level of unjustified demand has skewed demand, going forward. Proper double whammy, massive over-demand (a lot of which will go to waste) followed by a massive slump in demand. So dismayed with the behaviour of my 'country persons'. References to war time comarardarie are really wide of the mark. People should just stop being twats!

Some interesting stats coming out of the retail monitoring companies (no excuses for my citation being from More Or Less, again). It would appear that the majority of shelf clearing is down to people taking an extra 1 or 2 items, presumably because people are eating at home rather than at sandwich shops or school etc. This resulted in the second week in March being the biggest day of supermarket sales ever incl any prev Christmas period. The survey (30,000 shoppers) showed that only 6% of people had displayed behavior that could be considered to be stockpiling.

And finally.....
It seems that of the people who need intensive care iro 60-70% of the deaths occur in men, globally. Partly because men are more likely to engage in unhealthy activities such as smoking and drinking, but mainly because men are biologically weaker than women. The gene which carries the information to build a viral defence early warming system is embedded in the X chromosome and as men have one of those vs two in women, men's defences aren't as well developed.

..... But that raises questions about the Chinese figures. They reported that 51% of deaths were men. Were they making up figures and thought that 50/50 looked believable at the time. Especially hard to understand because 50% of Chinese men smoke and only 2% of Chinese women do.

Just received my "personal letter" from the Prime Minister about the Corona Virus.

Fair play to him, can't be easy for him to type it up and post it, under current circumstances.

If a poll was done I think the numbers may worry most of us.
