Tim Brooke-Taylor has died from Covid.
Sir Sterling Moss has died too but I don't think his was virus related.

Sad isn't it? The Goodies were really popular as I was growing up.
I fear these announcements will be a regular thing over the next few weeks.

TBT was a regular panelists on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue for 40 yrs! R4 panel shows are good steady work if you can get on one.

I think when things get back to some form of normality then there are going to be significant tax rises for everyone including the self-employed to allow further increases in funding for the NHS and social care. I am hearing that National Insurance could rise from 12% to 20%.

The chancellor made a statement implying self employed people may have to pay more.

18 minutes this time. I can understand shops limiting the number of people going in, but websites - can you catch the virus from other visitors?

Had a look at the deaths state by state in Aus and Tasmania has by far the worst casualty rate per capita, hopefully not but seeing that you'd maybe expect things to get a lot worse when they reach their winter, like a lot of other countries who've escape it so far

Probably a bit misleading as most cases to Australia are returned travellers, very few local transmission, and most deaths are now from those returning from cruise ships.

If that's the case then you'd expect NSW and Vic then to be miles ahead of Tas, but they're not

Tasmania 133 cases for population of 515,000 = infection rate of .00026 Deaths 5

NSW 2857 cases for population of 7,500,000 = infection rate of 0.00038 Deaths 24

So Tas death rate higher x 5 but case rate lower. Death rate is no doubt skewed by the small numbers. There's barely enough cases overall in Australia for statistical significance and certainly not in 133.

I found it quite ironic that Boris has went off to his country retreat after all the outrage at the Scottish doctor visiting her second home leading to her resignation. I know the circumstances aren't exactly the same but still...

I know what you mean but he's had the virus, should be immune and needs to be kept away from his office as much as I would need to be kept away from my computer if I had to rest.

The real death rate is probably nearer to 20,000 as only hospital deaths are being counted and not those who die in care homes or at home. I presume they need an autopsy or test to see exactly what they died from or will they just be buried with the truth unknown ?

When/if this is all done and dusted and the real death rate becomes known it could very easily bring down the government. Cant believe journalists in the UK are not all over it or is it some sort of conspiracy to prevent a panic ?

The Government haven't been secretive about this and have been very clear in their briefings as well as expaining why the hospital deaths are the focus of the daily reporting - (which incidentally is also the WHO measure). The figures for all deaths are published by ONS and include sub subtotals with COVID19 specific figures as well as a sensible focus on Influenza and pneumonia and a recognition that there will be overlap. Its up to the journalists what they focus on and many journalists have looked at those numbers too - and what did you base your estimate on?
As to the "fuss" around 10K - thats normal reporting fuss when a round number gets breached just like when petrol went over £1 per litre or Peter Crouch and Matt Le Tissier scored their 100th PL goals.

It's quite concerning that people in care homes (my mum included) are being allowed to die there without even being tested. I realise if there's a shortage of ventilators the elderly would not be a priority but I didn't think it would be routine to leave covid-19 sufferers in the care of care staff.
