Not sure what the delays are or what the racing commentary is like/any but Alexa can play Tab Radio. It`s marginally faster than PC using WiFi

Don't want to step on Anbell's toes but if he/she is unable or unwilling to share their AM feed, I may be able to set something up. Keeping in mind where I'm based I get the Radio TAB coverage (race commentary is basically identical and real time, but the presenter between races is a different person to Sky radio, or whatever it's called in other states).

It's a bit complicated for me to set it up.

I'm absolutely a +1 on this. Very happy to join something and contribute long term if it proves a success.

Hi guys, had a few PM's regarding this. I'm going to do some research on the setup required etc. over the weekend (I've never worked with Skype so have to school myself up on that part!). I should know whether it is viable by the end of the weekend
Will update here when I know more.

There are many levels to this.
Aus racing coverage is different to UK, as they have largely gone to fibre, which is v hard to hack.
Pure radio should be relatively simple to provide. If the radio station is available on local TV, just get a DVI cable from TV to computer, and start some sort of group conferencing software. If the speed is not as good etc, then u have to find other ways.
Once the radio is available, people will ask about video. I have had equipment sent to an Aus location. Lockdown is affecting installation, so don't really know when it will be ready.
The bad time slot does make me wonder if it will be used etc, but have thrown 2k at it.
Plse dont msg me. I will update when ready.

You just need an AM radio and a male/male cable (prob 3.5mm), one end in the headphone port on the radio, and the other into the speaker port on the computer.
I used skype because of the auto-answering, but whatsapp or any other group conference would work too, and you'd just leave it open permanently

Is the AM radio in Perth the same as Sydney ?
I have never listened. Do different territories have the same coverage ?

There are different regional stations throughout Australia but the coverage is 90% identical for the most part. Where they differ is if a local race clashes with an interstate race, the local race will usually get priority. Today for example Dalby has clashed with a number of races in the southern states but Radio TAB has covered it. I can't imagine the stations in the other states would gave covered it.
Would be the same with WA, there are a lot of regional/country tracks that wouldn't be covered in the eastern states if there is any sort of clash (Bunbury, Northam, Port Hedland, Albany etc)

Alice Springs is another meeting that Radio TAB has covered a bit today too. Don't think the southern relays would have fit it in (could be wrong)
Also for those students that may not follow the SE QLD prov/country tracks, they are almost exclusively leader biased. Dalby, Kilcoy, Beaudesert, Ipswich (although less so than the others). Assuming the pace isn't suicidal, the leader at the 800 will almost always finish in the first 3.

Hi Whimsies, are you basing the latency from when Betfair turns their market in play? If so, Betfair are 5 seconds behind live with their suspend. So a feed that appears live will be roughly 5 seconds behind. Do you have access to an AM radio to check? It is real time, FM can also be used it is about 2 seconds behind. If the feed is genuinely live then you'll have no shortage of people throwing money at you!

I think a few people would contribute to the costs, if someone was prepared to organise, so the sender got a profit + increased liquidity.
Maybe people interested could +1, and we maybe take this offline to a private chat and discuss options.
The tech definately exists -- its been solved for UK facetimers.
