I havn't been through and read any of the old comments so I apologise if this topic has already been brought up, but why do The US have a Patent on Corona Virus & why does Europe have a Patent on a Vacine. I can understand a patent on a vacine but not the actual virus itself.

This has fueld a new conspiracy, i'm not interested in that i'm just curious as to why you would Patent a virus.
It’s actually fairly common, the same was done for HIV/AIDS pathogens.

The only reason I could spew out of this tiny pea inside my head is that the vaccine is in someway the virus, I think I remember watching Bill Gates say that some vaccines are in basic terms, a weaker or diluted dose of the original virus, which makes both a virus and a vaccine profitable & with Corona being a family of viruses then in wonder if one Patent covers them all. Just goes to show, there is opportunity everywhere.

It's to stop people spreading the virus and charging the people they infect.

Appreciate that rationale, it really was too much for me to understand 🤣

I've never understood why converting from one unit to another makes such an impact on perceptions. What really gets me is when somebody tries to sell you a service for £15 a month and says, it's only 50p a day!!

The generation that was educated in Imperial measurements and had to adapt to SI units as well as currency decimalization is probably less prone to being conned with that sort of sleight of hand than the younger set. Goodness knows what youngters think when they're being told their new car will give them 65mpg when they can only buy fuel by the litre.

There probably aren't many people who think, behave and rant like I do, but if there are a few, 3 weeks of well-wishing, refraining or bottling-up any criticism of BJ could start to get unleashed now that he's better. ;)

Popped up in my recommendations. (probably due to VE day related content)

1930's short film of Londons' streets/traffic just before the onset of the great depression. Why post it in this thread?... well, we are just about to embark upon the next great depression....

Having said that, the FTSE100 is about to smash through the 6000 mark....or is it?

Plenty of VE day street parties around here. Kids dancing in the street. Good to see!

Bit of light in these somewhat depressing times. Today I spent 3 hours in the sunshine with the whole street for the VE anniversary, social distancing with a bit of music and chatting, had a bbq, had a virtual quiz and then went back into the street for a quiz and more chatting.

Considering I am a young male and could have been born at a time when other people started a war that sent me in trenches fearing for my life every day, instead I safe at home, I am so lucky. I am warm, fed, comfortable, loved, safe, happy etc. Obviously there is something very serious happening to our world right now which is destroying so so much but you know what, just for today, I am grateful to be born when I was and I am so proud to be English. Today has been a good day.
