I didn't mean to argue against masks in general, or even necessarily against it as an alternative to lock-down. I understood your post to having the intent to show or argue that masks are more effective than lock-down. This may have been a bias on my part, so do correct me if needed.Emmson wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 11:21 pmFace masks and the coronavirus – Masks probably slow the spread of covid-19 https://www.economist.com/science-and-t ... f-covid-19Kafkaesque wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 9:39 pmAs someone else already said regarding Singapore, if you've spent time in some of these Asian countries, the attitudes of respect towards fellow people and authorities are of a different nature. Mask vs Lockdown is too binary and doesn't explain anything, when the difference could just as be pointed to as something geographical/cultural.
My point was and remains is that I'm of the opinion that masks vs lock-down are of lesser importance than having a populace where there's a common culture of respect. As oppossed to having leaders refusing masks where it would clearly make sense, not socially distancing, continuing to shake hands etc. And as a result a population believing they can/should be doing so as well, while also having a stronger feeling of, my rights comes first.
Lift the lock-down and go with masks if that makes sense. By all means. But if those who should be leading by example are twats and are acting like said twats, it matters not.
