Betfair Account Closed on Business Grounds

No response from the escalations team yet. Still waiting for them to respond.

I contacted the customer support again, still possible through the login problems option, and this time got more responses. They said to contact back later for the possible winnings. However, they could not answer why the account was closed (other than it being a decision by the management) and said the account cannot be reopened.

It's been five days and according to Betfair's dispute's page they respond within 24 hours. According to the mail I received the average wait time is 24 hours.

Should I resend the request or wait more? Difficult to get hold of them indeed.

The only decent Betfair communication route left is DM to their customer services on Twitter @betfairCS. They won't be able to answer your question but they are good at chasing up things that need to be fixed. Good luck!

I am fairly sure that given the original post that BF are not going todo anything about this. It looks like they closed the account due to fraud rules being broken.

You may find your only route is seeing a lawyer who will advise on the cost of court action. But then again BF can afford a good legal team etc.

You cannot possibly be sure of anything with so little information and no response from Betfair, and bearing in mind the OP deposited €100 it's a bit early to be talking about court action. Even if the OP did decide to go down the legal route the first step is to find out if you have a case or if it's entirely Betfair's discretion on who to do business, before considering if you've got thousands of euros to throw at it, to win back the pleasure of placing a few bets. :)

Derek, they didnt just suspend his account they closed it with no mention of returning his funds. That to me says they will be playing the long game. :)

So you think it's worth paying a solicitor €100 to find out how many €1000s it will cost to get back his €100?

It's a bit early for that Archery, you need to give Betfair more time to respond. If it was the UK I would seek free advice from a suitable organisation or consult my MP.

Yes quite right.

It's also possible that lawyers may be of little use. By that I mean Betting companies, casinos etc have the right to cancel or refuse a membership for all sorts of reasons and at their own descretion. As long as it's not something like outright provable discrimination.

There is a longshot and it really is a longshot. The Betting and gaming Adjudicator/Ombudsman. Their role is normally to act as the final ruling in disputes between punters and betting operators. Normally it's for cases where an operator hasn't honoured a bet or has not paid out what the punter believes the bet should have paid out.

Usually they only get involved once all the internal procedures have been exhaused by the betting operator.
Most of the time the betting companies follow the Adjudicators reccomendations. It's also a matter of good publicity.

In this case It seems unlikely that the Adjudicator will want to reccomend that an operator should re-instate a membership, as stated before Betting companies can demonstrate they've simply followed their security protocol.

However if Betfair refuse to communicate it cost nothing to contact the Adjudicator with a copy of correspondence to Betfair showing that one has tried to communicate and had no response.

The Adjudicator will then likely refer the matter back to Betfair which may then prompt Betfair to give the OP a chance to enter dialogue and go from there.

At that point it would be wise to have available any evidence to back up the case.

I contacted Betfair customer support again on Wednesday. The customer support person said the request was on queue and further directed it to management and said they would respond soon. Still no response.

I'm not sure what 'soon' means at Betfair but it certainly doesn't mean within two days.
