US Presidential Election 2020
I don't like politicians of any flavour. My point is, the alternative is dictatorship. And that is where I would place Trump. He has a personal agenda and that's OK for him and his supporters, but democracy doesn't work like that. It's about integrity (I can hear the guffaws already) and being held accountable by the electorate for the success or failure of your policies.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 5:28 pmI don’t think he or anybody else agreed he was politician. Isn’t that how he won in the first place as allot of people don’t like your run of the mill politicians. And don’t forget 70 million voted for him. That’s why the USA is split down the middle.greenmark wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 5:02 pmTrump says "He (Briden) won because the Election was Rigged".
Quite unbelievable that he has now accepted defeat, but doesn't have the good grace to go with dignity.
I guess we should all step back and realise this man isn't a politician. He can't weigh the arguments and pro's and con's of every word he utters.
He's a bulldozer.
He makes outrageous promises, breaks them willy nilly, talks through his arse, that's as 'politician' as you can get.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 5:28 pmI don’t think he or anybody else agreed he was politician. That's four years for Republicans to come to their senses. Then again, the last four years didn't bring them to their senses and even Trump's tantrum that's severely damaging the USA doesn't seem to bother them.

I think America will go through some kind of modern day civil war before the 4 years are up.

I didn't actually. The first time I voted was 2012, and that was LibDems.superfrank wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 10:34 pmGordon Brown claimed he'd abolished "Tory boom and bust", but you voted for him.

Oh well, you were young I guess.
If you are not a liberal at 25, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative at 35 you have no brain.

Thats the most hysterical, but potentially accurate thing I think Ive seen you post. I started left of cnetre liberal, then hard left, then unrelenting thatcherite. Then I stepped back and was thrilled when Blair won. And so disappointed with what has ensued since. As I say, I don't like politicians, can you trust someone that sidles up to you and says 'give me power'?superfrank wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 10:58 pmOh well, you were young I guess.

Yes, I was eight years younger than I am now. I'd suggest whoever wrote that quote doesn't have a heart or brain.superfrank wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 10:58 pmOh well, you were young I guess.

That's obviously just you but it is a fact that people, on average, move to the right as they get older (and wiser one could logically conclude). Labour wants to give the vote to children for this very reason.greenmark wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 11:11 pmThats the most hysterical, but potentially accurate thing I think Ive seen you post. You should have stopped at Thatcher; the last great (and true conservative) leader we've had.
Dunno about stopping at Thatcher, but I will concede she was the most effective politician of my life, so far. Didn't like her policies, or how she went about it. But she was absolutely brilliant at what she did. Can we leave it there lest I invoke Elvis Costello's refrain?superfrank wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 11:27 pmThat's obviously just you but it is a fact that people, on average, move to the right as they get older (and wiser one could logically conclude). Trump ain't coming back. He lost the popular vote twice and was a one term president. Just too divisive. I think he was a product of a particular time and mood, but his time has passed.
So, Jeramy Corbyn but be right-wing now?superfrank wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 11:27 pmThat's obviously just you but it is a fact that people, on average, move to the right as they get older (and wiser one could logically conclude). I suppose it's pointless me telling you what I think of Thatcher - you can guess that, and to what extent.
