An urgent inquiry is needed to understand why deaths from alcohol hit record levels in England and Wales in the first nine months of 2020, experts have said.

I'd recommend the inquiry is carried out by the team of scientists who concluded that McDonald's is bad for your health. :)

Where I am the last week has seen a 30% drop in confirmed cases and thats the first time since the beginning of December.
Everyone please keep doing the right things, if you can.
It's not easy. Was in Tesco yesterday picking a birthday card and this old dear got closer and closer. She actually reached across to look at a card that was right in front of me. I doubt the dear old thing's arm was anywhere near 1 metre long. I moved away.
Am I paranoid? Or am I just trying to adhere to the advice of our elected government?

Case numbers are almost meaningless, even the WHO and test kit manufacturers admit how inaccurate they are. Viruses aren't going to go away they've been around for thousands of years and some say it's an essential part of life to maintain our immune system.

You can't control the external environment the same way you can't force the market to do what you want and if you spend your life on a loss aversion mission, getting frustrated over things which you have no control over, then you probably aren't living.

At the end of the day there's been no concerning levels of excess deaths, just marginal variance across the world. Sweden a couple of thousand extra deaths, Spain less deaths than 2018 and 2019, UK 2020 comes in at 9th place for most deaths since the millenium. I think people need to relearn to accept a degree of risk like pre-2020, especially for viruses which have a 99.8% or whatever survival rate which isn't much different to the common flu. This isn't the plague, and if it was then people wouldn't need to be told what to do.

Nature can't be controlled. In a lake a small percentage of the life is naturally going to be eaten by the bigger 99% of life. Is the solution to start taking all the fish out of the lake and start putting them into isolated containers so they don't get eaten?

On the bottom step, you have idiots who buy records, take them home, play them backwards until they hear a noise that sounds remotely like "do it" and then goes out the next day and jump off a cliff!

A step above them are people not so eccentric but sensitive to anything that resembles the shape of a tornado.

You are just one step above those people! You wouldn't think a graph looks steep in the 1000 to 1010 range but you think you're way above the average person who must have an I.Q. of 10, and anyone who produces a graph that doesn't start from zero must be exaggerating the scale. There's also an element of paranoia in you. Every doctor, reporter, newsreader, and journalist is an outrageous liar, and the rest of us are stupid and obliged to believe whatever we hear in the media.

What do all you're graphs look like, Betfair charts that have traded from 1.01 to 1000?

What would you do if you found an elderly man having a heart attack? Make him comfortable and say "don't worry, you were going to die soon anyway - it's part of nature"?

Whether you believe it or not, NHS staff are having to work ridiculously long shifts and are being overwhelmed. It's against the law to take ill people to undertakers because you're expecting them to die, and people injured in road accidents will struggle to get the urgent treatment they need so it affects everyone.

Masks protect other people, not the wearer. I know you'll struggle to understand it Alex but most people think of others and don't want to spread the virus to somebody vulnerable.

I'm sure if you research and think about that commonly used statement hard enough, you'll realise it's a cruel social disapproval technique used by Sage's SPI-B (behavioural psychologist) department and the documents are available online.

Tell them that masks are to protect others to make sure everyone feels socially pressured into wearing one or risk facing the angry mob, that will help to create the illusion of a pandemic. Remember that there are real scientific papers showing weak correlation between the use of masks and the transmission of viruses

Nothing to think about if you're blessed with common sense. Have you tried spitting at somebody with a mask on?

I'm afraid the only person in a state of illusion is you. What's you're definition of scientific paper? A scientist can write a scientific paper explaining why the world is flat. Unfortunately, many of them spend too long in the lab and lose their mind.

What is the flipping point in saying the documents are available online if you're not going to link them? Do you expect me to take two weeks off trading looking for them??

We all know you're documents come from unsubstantiated conspiracy theory websites - it's all made up bullshit!

I thought I had time in between matches but I'm now cooking a chicken dinner with potatoes, sprouts, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and mint sauce. It's got to be ready and eaten by three!

The point of an argument isn't always to win - sometimes it's entertainment. :)

Entertainment between the matches, eh?

If this argument were a football match, it would be a bore draw with the scoreline still 0-0! :D
