There was an article in paper that djoker has a big drive to be the goat and doesn’t believe he gets the recognition of Federer or Nadal. Driving him forward. (We all crave recognition for what we do).

I don’t know him but he comes across as a massive competitor on many aspects, not just tennis.
100% - Djokovic wants to go down as the most successful player ever and is well on course to do just that AND in the Federer & Nadal era.

Only player to have won all 9 Masters series events (Federer, Nadal & Murray have all won 7 of the 9 - Djokovic has won each one at least twice).

He will want to surpass Margaet Court's GS total of 24 and Federer's 310 weeks at World #1 (though he's perhaps unlikely to surpass Federer's 237 consecutive weeks at World #1).

[The ATP Tour was suspended from 16 March to 21 August 2020. ATP Ranking was frozen from 23 March to 23 August 2020, thus that period was not counted towards the total. In that period (22 weeks), the world number one was Novak Djokovic.]

He's been Year-end World #1 6 times which is already one more than both Federer and Nadal.

...but like Federer, he hasn't yet won the Olympic Singles which will be a major target for them both this year.

...the difficulty in tennis is that there is no guarantee of any momentum shifts.

Djokovic AO Final winning scores:

2021 - 75 62 62 (Medvedev)
2020 - 64 46 26 63 64 (Thiem)
2019 - 63 62 63 (Nadal)
2016 - 61 75 76 (Murray)
2015 - 76 67 63 60 (Murray)
2013 - 67 76 63 62 (Murray)
2012 - 57 64 62 67 75 (Nadal)
2011 - 64 62 63 (Murray)
2008 - 46 64 63 76 (Tsonga)

I wonder what the odds now are on Djokovic winning all four GS's this calendar year?

...interesting article on BBC Sport today:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/56146799

GOAT: Novak Djokovic closes Grand Slam gap on Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer

Not only was Novak Djokovic playing for the Australian Open title on Sunday, he was playing catch-up in the race to be crowned the 'GOAT' in men's tennis.

The number of Grand Slam titles is the most obvious and easiest metric for those who wish to determine - and not everyone does - which man is the Greatest Of All Time.

Serbia's Djokovic won in Melbourne to land an 18th major title, moving him two behind Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer's all-time leading tally of 20 Grand Slam singles victories.

Beating Russia's Daniil Medvedev for a ninth Australian Open title may prove to be pivotal in the race.
