I think it's pretty entertaining, Alex & Derek seem to have bonded well. Alex purposely prods Derek & Derek loves to respond. They keep each other good and imo it's far better than talking about Derek's trunks and man bit struggles.

I used to do that when I was young, prior to setting benches on fire. What do your friends say/do? Do they tell you off for it or throw their empty bottles in the river as well?

Same with a cauliflower we bought there recently. It was green and soft and very smelly on the underside. Their standards are definitely slipping now they have acquired a decent market share.

My experience of Lidl and Aldi is the hype disguises a lack of quality. Broccoli that turns to mush in days. Poor quality meat and not that cheap. The service is awful.Crazyskier wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 9:41 pmSame with a cauliflower we bought there recently. It was green and soft and very smelly on the underside. They've succeeded in stirring the hornets nest that is Tesco et al. Locally, Lidl planted a store a thiird of the size on the local tesco. I thought it was audacious and great competition. Sadly, its been a complete failure. It's a very depressing place to shop at. No bargains, no choice, zero service and grumpy staff and clientele.
Aldi has a lot of Polish birds working for them, and they're always nice.
I've just bought a tomato, cucumber (both fine) and fresh chicken breasts from Lidl today. I wouldn't dream of buying bacon or sausages from either Lidl, Aldi or Iceland. Never tried the beef steaks but things like eggs, chicken, potatoes; you can't go wrong.
Inspect vegetables before you buy them.
Alex, were you carrying that red pepper home with sweaty hands?

Derek, have you not noticed yet that you have become Alex's puppet? I don't remember anyone making a mockery out of someone as easy as Alex does with you!Derek27 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 10:44 pmAldi has a lot of Polish birds working for them, and they're always nice.![]()

If you look for the cheapest ie lidl aldi etc then you get what you pay for, and an empty high street. We buy fruit and veg from the grocer, bread from the bakery, cleaning stuff from the ironmonger and meat from the butcher. The only stuff we get from the supermarket is what you can't get elsewhere. It seems a little more expensive but you get better stuff that lasts longer so it isn't and local families get a quid or two instead of a corporation. I'm not talking pretentious artisan stuff, just regular places with regular people. Get a social conscience, support local business and eat better and probably cheaper stuff. It's a win win.
We started doing it when we were broke because it was cheaper, and I'd never go back to expensive supermarket crap even though we could afford to now.

You can buy the vine-ripened, or whatever they're called tomatoes from Lidl and Morrisons sells them loose. I don't like wasting food and a cheese/egg/ham & tomato sandwich only requires a third of a tomato. Two tomatoes would be a surplus!ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 2:25 am'a' tomato? I didn't even know you could buy 'a' tomato. But you bought a whole cucumber not a half. Either you've got your salad balance all wrong or you've got other plans for that cucumber!
Same with the cucumber, I only need a slice here and there.

The only person Alex makes a mockery out of is himself.
The only person who finds Alex funny, is you (s).
Alex has been pulling Derek's strings for a while, it was blatent. He even for a moment recognised himself that the clever people ignore him... responding to him from that point onwards says alot in itself.
I do find it funny, not so much what he says, but the reasoning behind it.
You can always depend on Derek though to "fight the good fight", as other forumites have pointed out, or maybe encouraged.
Sorry to be the one who pointed it out to Derek that Alex has been "taking the piss", & probably the only reason he continues is because Derek keeps playing for him.
Maybe I should have said nothing & we can all watch on as Derek "fights the good fight" against someone who is clearly only commenting with an aim at Derek (proven when it spilled into this thread) with ammunition designed to bait him.
