Modern world unfortunately, hypocrisy is everywhere and its pretty much inescapable
It's exploitable, but it's also a dance with logic that feeds frustration.

For absolute starters, this is what I would do:

6. As in Rugby Union, when invited only the team Captain can approach and speak to the match referee - if anyone else does it's a yellow card and a visit to the sin bin. Anyone speaks or harangues the referee's assistants, it's a visit to the sin bin for at least 10 minutes of ball-in-play.
Similar to rugby, any complaining to the ref and the ref can move the ball 10m towards your goal if you're the defending team, another 10m if the bitching doesn't stop. You don't see rugby players surrounding the ref freaking out because it's taught from schoolboy level that it'll just cause your team more hassle, you'll lose ground, and still won't change his mind!
Granted there's differences where an infraction 50m out in rugby could turn a kick to touch, into a kick at goal, in football the 10m could be the difference between a cross for a header type free, to a direct shot on goal free.

I'm sure on Sunday most England fans would prefer to have a 25m free kick at goal instead of a 35m free kick looped in hoping Maguire gets on the end of it being double marked.

Separately I'd like to see a rule brought in that if a player is down with a head injury, they get a 10 min timeout unreplaced and get a Head Injury Assessment before returning to the field. Yes it would be unfair to the side if the player did genuinely have a concussion/head injury and they were down a man for 10 mins, but comparing the amount of times a player gets a real concussion/head injury to the amount of times players stop, drop and roll holding their heads if they get the merest hint of contact to the head.....long term it would be in the best interests of fair play, and player safety ;)

It seems the tougher the sport the more respect players have for the refs and the harsher the punishments for crossing a line. Aussie rules, rugby, gaelic games could all teach soccer a thing or two about player conduct.

Paidi didn't touch the ref though

Wait until England gets backed into evens, you'll get a much better price!

Anyone know why the Union Jack was used in the 66 world cup and not an England flag by fans?

Because we secretly had Scottish Welsh and Northern Irish playing in the team.

yes +1 ('twas one of my additional rule changes :) )

...the option to advance 'up to 10m' should be with the team getting the free-kick as it can be a disadvantage getting too close to the goal - best to allow the team with the free-kick to be allowed to take the free-kick from anywhere in-line, up to the point at which the ref marks the pitch.

...all of the answers to football's many problems are already out there - they simply need to be considered, adapted if necessary, and then implemented - the players will soon adapt to the new rules.

Because in '66 all of the other home nations also cheered on England and were proud to be British. A very different picture to 2021, sadly.

Forget about giving Southgate a knighthood if England win the Euro's, maybe it should be given to Bielsa! He's already an honourary Yorkshireman so shouldn't take too much doing to make it happen :)

My old primary school Scottish teacher said British athletes/swimmers are Scottish, Welsh or Irish, otherwise they're called English. :)
