Hi all - if I wanted to get a laptop specifically just for running Bet Angel on, what sort of spec would I need and what's the most important thing for it to have? Processing power or RAM or both? (I'm not very techie!)
I usually run around 4 guardians at the same time, across all horse racing markets, streaming with the fastest refresh rate possible. My rules have around 40 lines in them, if any of that makes any difference.
Thanks
Laptop for Bet Angel

That's probably beyond me tbh.
It all runs OK on a laptop at the moment, the only issue is it's a work laptop and the streaming doesn't seem to work properly, so I only get about 10 markets refreshed per second.

I see Bet Angel sell their own VPS, near the Betfair servers? Quite expensive compared to what's out there just on the market though isn't it? I guess if I don't really know what I'm doing then better to go with the Bet Angel one?
Any advice?
Thanks

I couldn't comment on the pricing, I've never used a vps. Maybe it's worth comparing the price to buying a decent spec laptop... just roughly it could cost around 1300 for a decent laptop so for that sort of money you'd get 32 months on a vps which is probably around about the same time as an upgraded laptop could be needed. Other benefits is obviously things like speed, peace of mind with performance etc.
Personally I'd be interested in what specs others are running or suggest for the capacity you're running at and then ponder over the prices.

if you have put illegal software on a company laptop you are likely breaking their terms and conditions and liable to the sack. i would get Bet Angel off that machine before your IT department find out and report you to HR.

I've used a Bet Angel VPS for a year and no complaints at all.showtrader wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 1:27 pmI see Bet Angel sell their own VPS, near the Betfair servers? thanks all. How do you connect to the VPS? Is it just like going to a webpage and logging in, and then you see your desktop on the VPS?
And could you login to your VPS from any internet connection, doesn't matter if there's a firewall or any restrictions on your browsing etc?
Thanks

So you're now an expert in employment law? Since when has Bet Angel been illegal software?MemphisFlash wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 2:07 pmif you have put illegal software on a company laptop you are likely breaking their terms and conditions and liable to the sack. i would get Bet Angel off that machine before your IT department find out and report you to HR.
Turning up to work late is breaking their terms and conditions, doesn't mean you're in line for the sack!
When I was in IT my T&C's specifically prohibited loading unautorised software onto my work desktop/laptop.Derek27 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 3:30 pmSo you're now an expert in employment law? One company made it physically impossible by disabling any method of installing.
The reason? The workload of the techies trying to figure out why a computer had gone berserk only to discover it was some crap bit of software.
Unauthorised is different to illegal, and more importantly, did they get the sack?greenmark wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 3:40 pmWhen I was in IT my T&C's specifically prohibited loading unautorised software onto my work desktop/laptop.Derek27 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 3:30 pmSo you're now an expert in employment law? I always thought it's standard practice to disable software installation and system setting editing on work computers.

Derek are you really as thick as you appear?

I think breaching T&C's CAN but not necessarily DO amount to gross misconduct. But you're right probably not a sackable misdemeanour. Unless of course you download some ransomware that trashes the companies network.Derek27 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 3:45 pmUnauthorised is different to illegal, and more importantly, did they get the sack?greenmark wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 3:40 pmWhen I was in IT my T&C's specifically prohibited loading unautorised software onto my work desktop/laptop.

And yes disabling software installs is std practice for competent companies.
Which suggests the OP works for a company with techies that aren't up to snuff.
And quite possibly their T&C's don't prohibit loading unauthorised software.
But i bet (arf!) the OP's company might not be too impressed to know their kit is being used in such a fashoin.
